Hardware & Technical Invincible Potato

Lol

I accidentally* left my Potato laptop (Acer Aspire 5740G) in my car boot last night. It was -4°C.

Covered in condensation this morning.

Booted up fine. Lol

It's not the first time it's been frozen, nor will it be the last. It's also traveled the world, been dropped, dismantled, overheated (all the time), wet, and sat on by my cat.

#ImmortalPotato.

:D

Share you invincible products.

*I always leave my laptop in the boot of my car.

Is that the one with the 120Hz screen and an Nvidia GPU thats barely enough to watch a film?

Don't be silly. Lol
It's a 1366x768 screen, with no viewing angles and a built in ATI 4750M 512mb. Lol
It's also about 6-7 years old.

:D

It also only has 1 working speaker, and it's on its 7th battery, 2nd screen, 2nd hard drive, 3rd keyboard, and 2nd WiFi card. :D

But it's still going!

It's going to be -9°C tonight, and it's still in the boot of my car. :D

Several years ago I was doing a computer maintenance course at to the same as being an analytical chemist. The company I worked for at the time were about to dispose of some computer equipment. 4 PCs and a flat panel monitor had been left outside in the cold and rain for a few weeks. The monitor was upside down in a bucket of water. I asked the IT manager if I could take them away to play with. He was quite happy as it saved on disposal costs. I had to drain water out of the monitor and PCs, I removed all the components and let them dry for a couple of weeks. The pins had been bent back on the hard drives and I managed to straighten them back on all but 1 drive.
I put them back together and started them up. I was amazed, everything worked! The monitor had a few wet spots on the screen and 1 missing pixel but after another week drying the wet spots had gone.

Cheers,
Mark

Ok so are major hardware technology fails of a personal nature acceptable op subject? Because I have a few of those?

I'm not being silly - I have the 5745DG, which has a 768p/120Hz screen with laughable viewing angles and an Nvidia 430M GPU!

And it's on its 3rd keyboard, although this is more to do with having multiple kids at that age throughout the lifetime of the machine. I've put an SSD into it for giggles.

It runs BF2 (the old one, not the Star Warts one) really well!
