Invisible damage in Asteroid Field

The void opals are fighting back!?

It sounds like you clipped an asteroid (done that myself) and you are going quite fast, but that's still an awful lot of damge. I clipped an asteroid in my Cobra-IV at those sorts of speeds and only lost a ring off the 3C shields - and there's no PROX warning ... weird.

Edit: Yeah I'd bug report that too!

I was heading back to sell a haul of Opals in my trusty Asp Explore and my ship just blew up. I checked the logs and there were 3 occurrences of hull damage (nothing stating shield damage), then a line saying I died.

I was far enough out of the belt for no gravity lock, had night vision on, and saw nothing I could have ran into, no blips on scanner. I FA off boost flipped to line up with jump when it happened.

A few days later something similar happened in my MK4, but this time it wasn't enough hull damage to kill me, and I figured out what the culprit is.

Limpets. I had three collectors out when leaving with my Asp, and one out when leaving with the MK4.

Doesn't look like you had limpets out though.

Limpets are bugged, they can damage the ship in this update (when returning with fragments) never seen them put so much as a dent in shields.

The OP's video looks a lot like the Anaconda exploding bug, no prox lights, no change in velocity, instant loss of shields and hull. Only difference is the Anaconda ends up in a rebuy screen. Been reports over the years of it happening with other ships.

Had 6 limpets out in a Python with 3a Prismatics (think 350ish shields), and with a bunch of close targets for them they were returning so fast they had me down to 33% hull before I could get away from them. You're right though, not the case with OP.
 
Strange, his ships internal temp is 27% as soon as his shields go down it moves to 30% and keeps rising.

Due to shield-recharge maybe? I never was interested in Temperatures while "in trouble". Got more important issues to look after, when "things" hit the fan. ;)

Has this happened to anyone else? Was flying around the asteroid field when suddenly, for no apparent reason, I lost the Shields and 70% of Hull...

I've noticed some odd collision damage when core mining. Initially I thought that I was hitting small pieces of debris, but the damage seemed extreme for the speed at which I was moving (shields and a 3rd of my hull lost in a matter of seconds). I was sure that there was nothing in the vicinity.

I was also thinking that maybe I clipped an invisible asteroid but I am high above the asteroids plane. I thought that because sometimes you can see the subsurface logos floating up in the air, with no asteroid. Ok, I will create a bug report then.

I think it's the fragments that are so big they smack your hull before vanishing in the cargo hatch when the limpets move them at very high speeds on entering the hatch. It may also have something to do with the angle they're coming at you. And among a fragmented asteroid there are small fragments where you can get stuck on pretty easily. With only size 3 shields on my Orca, I can feel every bump.

Of course this only explains damage while mining and not randomly exploding outside the asteroid belt.
 
Can you post the logfiles? Sometimes it says from where you took the damage. I don't remember what exactly is in there but it might be worth taking a look.
 
I've read that you can see explosions from core asteroids which are being exploded in other instances (because the asteroids are persistent and have the same state in all modes). Could damage from such an explosion get wrongly applied?
