I'm trying to improve the image quality of the rift, and I saw on Reddit that elite need a change in the file Settings.xml for setting the ipd.

Is it always necessary for Elite 1.0 ?
Have you measured your IPD using the Rift already?
If it is >66mm or <62mm I would suggest that you consider upgrading your Rift with IPD adjusters from VR-Gear (purchased from Shapeways).

I have an IPD of 70mm (wide eyes o____0), and was experiencing poor focus in one eye or the other at all times, which after an hour or so became uncomfortable and limited my 'fun'.
The IPD adjusters from VR-Gear set the optics at a better distance apart to accommodate for people like me with eye spacing that's outside of the human 'norm'.
Since adapting my Rift I no longer have any image quality issues and can play for hours on end.

Also, you may want to change the color of your HUD so that the predominant color is Green. It makes reading text much clearer. There are several posts on this forum about it, here's the first I found:
