General / Off-Topic IRL printed combat drones...

Kind of begs the question of why you can 3D print a one-man space fighter in the future but not a lunar rover.

Also, I gotta say, the people involved in that project seem like the sort of uninspired nerds who would have been championing military applications for VR 10 years ago but have now moved onto "drones" cos they're the new "latest thing".
Seems like their big plan is ignoring a couple of fundamental flaws; firstly that the machine capable of printing a small drone would be larger than a more capable drone would be and, secondly, the sort of small drones they're advocating aren't really going to be capable of carrying out a diverse enough range of activities to make customizing them useful.

It makes the SLF implementation more believable at least.

Well, except that a Taipan is 28 tons, and a 60 ton hangar can print thirty of them...

Especially since the Scarab is much less massive.

I also want to print SRVs on demand :-D

I'd rather have hangars be limited to smaller numbers of fighters and the fighters made lighter, more durable, and/or customizable to compensate.
