Iron, Iron, Iron, Iron, oh! For a little Chromium!!

I remember giggling at the misfortunes of one dude who - excuse me -

*jettisons 100 units of Iron*

said that he can't find enough iron to use in his - ahem -

*jettisons 36 units of Iron*

whatever he was doing.

Seriously? Either the galaxy is playing a joke on me or I'm just an idiot. I'm 24 Kylies from Jacques - on the opposite side of the core, I've spent six hours driving around three seperate metal rich worlds, and I have found not one unit of Chromium.
Which is worrying really. These neutron star boosts are draining my AFMUs.

Am I doing something wrong? In 1000+ hours of play I've only ever accumulated four units of Chromium!!

It's a roll of the dice, having said that, I have little problem finding chromium, vanadium on the other hand, arrrgh!

Are you checking the composition of the worlds to make sure chromium is even capable of dropping? I assume you are, but I figure I'd ask.

Also, certain rocks are more likely to spawn uncommon and rare mats than others. Make sure you are searching the correct rocks.

If you are doing both those things, then I have no idea.

Think: "I don't need chromium any more" ... say it out loud a few times while playing also helps ..... the game picks up on this and changes the rng .... soon you will be finding chromium because the game thinks you don't need it !

I was not checking the composition of the worlds to be honest. I figured a world that's the size of a, well, world, would have some chromium in it somewhere :D.
But I will do from now on :D.

But yeah. IT's been getting silly "WARNING: INVENTORY FULL" *jettisons 100 units of iron* actually happened more than once tonight!
I am actually starting to see Iron as the metal version of the "That's a loser, thanks for playing" lottery ticket.

[h=2]Technetium is my bane. Can never find the stuff. Found it once. [/h]
Chromium I find while mining and on the planet just outside Boston Base in Barnard's Star which is where I base my fleet out of.

This made me smile because I am looking for Tungsten, Mercury and Zirconium and I can hardly move without tripping over Chromium. I'm positively wading through the stuff.

Try the first 4 bodies at deciat. They don't have the best percentages, but they spawn a lot of gold outcrops.

By the way, if you want good materials, don't even waste the time on bronzite chondrites or grey outcrops. Go only for gold outcrops, metallic meteorites and mesosiderites.

P. S. I've never taken a planetary scanner when prospecting. You can find out what's on a body from eddb.io if not from the system map for most bodies on the bubble.

There are GOLD outcrops!? Never seen one. Come to that, I don't seem to come across too many metallic meteorites either :(
I think they are even more rare than meteorites. They sound like outcrops, are named outcrops but look golden and have the rarest elements in them.

Yep, there's only one way to tell the difference apart from color. On the scanner, a gold outcrop has the twin center lines on the wave MUCH closer together than the grey ones where the lines are almost top and bottom. Your still looking for that fat waveform just focus on the lines, are they close or far. Far, ignore.

Like I say, prospect in deciat in a big crater, near the edge or near the central mountain, and you'll see plenty of gold outcrops. Good luck.

Deciat isn't much good to me at the minute, I'm 41,897Ly away :D. The other advice is useful though :).

I've got loads of sodding Zirconium :p.
