Is 5000cr/t for a 1 hop round trip trade good?

Been out of the bubble for a loooong time. So long they some of my ship modules have vanished over various updates. Anyway I bumbled around for a while and stumbled across some missions that lead me to some system that needed meds and had loads of metal to trade.

Should I stick with a route generating, at peak, 5000cr/t one hop +return, <200ls and running occasional side missions, or go hunting for better trades.

I don't know if it's a good return or I'm mugging myself off. Like the time I tried trading anything but fish back in the long dark ago. ;)

I used to like mining too, but don't know what it's like nowadays. My refineries and bots are some of the things that vanished. 5k was higher than I expected, wasn't sure if it was luck, skill, or ignorance that made it (seem) so good.

Rich refineries with loads of cheap gallium but suffering an outbreak, near industrial or high tech desperate for metals but with some knowledgeable, cheap chemists is the way to go.

If you can predict demands grab a selection of metals rather than just the highest profit so you're already loaded to complete supply missions without moving.

Then jump in the *insert favorites combat ship here* to do some pew pew at the inevitable hRES near the refinery when the trading feels dull.

Of course your humanitarian efforts will be rewarded by ending the outbreak and killing the profit but there's always more money to be made from helping out with another grief stricken region somewhere.

as TGC Brony TO said, 5000cr/ton is exceptional. Ride that pony as long as it lasts. And DO NOT tell others the details. (except me - in PM)

typical is 1000-1500cr/ton - give or take for standings.

I think OP is saying 5000cr/t return one hop away, not one-way. i.e averaging 2,500cr/t per jump. Which pretty good. Problem is the route will only last as long as outbreak lasts. So you're looking up to 3000cr/t profit on the meds, and 1500-2000cr/t profit on the metals on return (e.g gold, palladium etc), particularly if the return is a high demand boom state (those don't last long either,, very quickly turn to low demand during boom)

5,000cr/t one-way on normal goods would be pretty rare.

You can do the same sort of thing with systems in famine neighbouring agricultural economies. Different economies in boom state have different things that are worth good dosh... taking Medical Diagnostic Equipment to service economies in a boom state can turn a tidy sum, for example.

EDIT: I usually talk in terms of one-way profits, but most traders talk in terms of total return-route per tonne profits, because it's (perceived) as not as good to turn 1500cr one-way and only 500cr/t (or nothing) on return, compared to a route which turns 1250cr/t both ways.

If one-way trade is lucrative enough, I'll return empty, assuming it significantly reduces the number of hops. I'd rather not waste time on extra hops, just to deliver some low-profit cargo.

Compared to vanilla runs it's better by far, but I dunno as far as outbreak med runs go. Should probably ask 777Driver - he's the first one to test and point out how lucrative outbreak meds runs are I believe. There was something required in surrounding systems or some other requirement for big payouts. Can't remember.

I believe they generally pay in the millions with mission stacking, though that may have been before the mission count nerfs. After reading his post on it a while back, I'd never got around to trying it myself.

Used to find slave routes around 4k/t, so yea pretty good. Course, with slaves you risk fines and such that eventually turn into bounties.

You can use boom and then outbreak/famine systems to make easy 3k a tonne. You can role play you are the savoir of the system or the scum, milking the needy for all their worth.
