Ships Is a Federal Corvette a good option for a combat trader?

Only a couple ranks 'til I'm a Rear Admiral. I'll likely go all the way and become an Admiral. I'm currently using a Python for missions and an Anaconda as a pure cargo hauler. I want something biiig, that can fit lots of cargo and can fight if the pirates get too annoying. Would a Federal Corvette be good as a combat trader (and maybe I'll turn my Anaconda into a miner). Jump range won't be an issue for local trading and CGs, so a 20 ly jump range would be fine.

In my opinion, the Corvette is the best CZ / BH combat ship in terms of all-out DPS but it is too lacking in terms of jump range to makes it unsuitable as a combat trader. CGs quicker exhaust local Large Pad systems very quickly and a 20ly jump range will see two / three / four jumps per run being needed to find a station with a large pad.
If you want a 'Big Ship' combat trader, stick with the Anaconda, I think that it is better suited to the job you describe.

I had a corvette which was excellent for combat zones, its jump range was about 18-19 light years, I carried hull/module reinforcements though, for just in case because never has lost my shields actually. I mean you can ignore hull reinforcements, invest into shields and fill internals with cargo instead and as a result you still get less jump range.
Also its fuel tank is rather small, you'll either need fuel scoops (less cargo) or fuel tanks(less cargo, less jump range because of fuel weight)...

This was my large armed trader that complimented my medium armed trader (Python). I used it for missions only, as I don't do CGs.

Loved getting interdicted by PvE pirates, as that just added a little fun and a bit more credits. :)

The only thing I changed in this build is I replaced a C4 cargo rack with a Guardian FSD booster. If I could have gotten one of those a while back, I would not have built my Cutter. While my Cutter can haul over 600T of cargo as currently configured, it is no where near as fun to fly (or fight in) as my Corvette.

Now you've got me thinking of ditching the White Whale (again) and rebuilding my large armed trader. Again.

Thanks. ;)

I abandoned a mission-running 'Conda for a 'Vette and I can't complain.
With a c5 Prisma I get 1 537MJs, have a fighter and a SRV hangar, also collector limpets and 2 c6 buissines class cabins, while keeping 374ts of cargo and a jumprange of 21,55/17,06 LYs.
For me this is much better than anything the 'Conda offered, and even if I have to deal with much less jumprange, I can do more, higher paying missions, than I could have done in the 'Conda. And still reach all my destinations in one jump.

IMO the 'Conda itself is completely outplaced as armed trader by the 'Vette and the T10. Both can carry more, the Vette much more with better defense and less range, the T10 a bit more with equal defense and better range (Jupp, loaden it jumps further than a 'Conda), and with that in Mind, I don't see the point of the 'Conda anymore. Especially in terms of trading and mission running.

<edit>
And yes of course is the iCutter the much better ship for armed trading. In theory. In fact, it is the worst handling ship ever, too fast for it's manouvering thrusters, and too wide for comfortable parking. And most important: it is'nt the ship which was asked for.

My Corvette does under 16 ly, unladen, with the "long range"FSD, lol.
If you end up using an FSD booster you are losing some of the internal space advantage.
Sometimes, like for VIP passenger missions, having a higher number of internals can be better than having more volume.

Vette goes through the slot easier and turns a lot better, but the Annie has better hardpoint convergence and much better range.

It's kind of a toss up imo.

I have an Anaconda and Cutter each set up for armed trade, but my Corvette is a res/CZ mat collector.
They could all switch roles really.

Have done LOTS of armed trading in my Vette. Absolutely awesome. Nothing like finding a nice little ecosystem of ports (Tun for Feds, HIP 5700 for Imps) and running mission stacks between bases. Can easily get interdicted 6-8 times per flight, and you can eat a couple Elite Condas at a time for huge mission and bounty payouts (don't forget your KWS!). And with 488 tons for cargo, no issues creating 20 mission stacks to maximize opportunites, not to mention cash and/or rank profits.

Great way to game!!
