Is a Squadron able to exist over all platforms?

Regarding a fleet carrier it depends on how Frontier are going to do this. Squadrons do exist as separate entities across different platforms but obviously can share the same name and tags. Question is whether it's designed to allow docking based on the name or tags, or whether is a specific marker in the code that will only allow the squadron on an individual platform to dock when squadron only access is selected. My prediction is the latter, but we'll see.

Although in the first instance, having a player owned in-game purchaseable asset that's visible across platforms?- I'll believe it when I see it.

Certainly player groups have Squadrons with the same name on multiple platforms (but they are different, so management is a pain). It's a good point about FC access - will it work by ID or by some back-end ID? Both have downsides:

  • If it matches on Squad name then someone on a different platform can get access by judicious Squadron naming
  • If it matches on a Squad ID then FC become platform-specific

Certainly worth a test!

Squads are not stored via names there stored as the "short Ident" on Fdev servers this ident is stand alone per squad theres no duplicating it allowed...
Squads can be accessed via online web site this is why duplication of the short ID is not allowed... they can be accessed even if the console owner create them...
and heres a simpsons fan may be...
ICUP as there Indent..

There is a real use case for this - I want to running a mining operation from my Fleet Carrier, and to do that as I planned, I would want to restrict access to specific players. As FCs are cross-platform, and this is a mining operation where deep interaction between players isn't vital, I would like to make this available to players on all platforms (and all modes).

But it seems that even if the FCs are cross-platform, you cannot grant access to specific players on other platforms, because they can't be in your friends list, and they can't be in your squadron.

(Pristine_Bump and I have been discussing this - I'm on PC, and he's on PS4). Definitely something to test further in Beta 2.

It would be very interesting to see how you get on with this in beta.

Thinking about squadrons like the Wolves of Jonai, who in theory could have dozens of the things, it might get a little annoying to navigate to one on your platform. Obviously they and similar squadrons may also want to limit access to their carriers.

I'm going to think that this would be an annoyance if it's allowed to persist as FDev know about squadrons operating on different platforms. The optimist in me (who has been woken up by finding out these are indeed cross platform) imagines that they have thought about this and a solution might appear in the next era update.

This assuming that squadrons with the same name and tag won't be able to dock already.
