Is a type 6 a worthwhile upgrade from a cobra

I'm doing mainly rares at moment at 40T loads in my cobra. Is it worthwhile getting a T6 & upgrading it or better to keep going with Cobra until I have around 10M creds and getting a bigger ship? Currently I have around 4M to spend so could upgrade T6 quite nicely

the T6 is without a doubt worth upgrading too for trade, it sucks at combat but for shifting 100 tonnes long distances you couldn't ask for a better vessel.

Great payload, fantastic range with class A FSD, reasonable thruster speed, horrible combat. You'll make a ton of money with it, but plan on running from everything.

I skipped the T6 and went right to the Asp. 96 ton capacity, and I can fight back when someone gets stupid and tries to steal from me. :D

You can get more cargo space if you swap for a different class shield, or eliminate it entirely. I kept the shield and upgraded it for better survivability.

Really depends on how you like to fly, TBH. If you're mostly in Solo and don't have many encounters with the AI trying to intercept you, you could probably just go for the T6 and be fine.

Bear in mind that the Asp is also more costly to maintain, so you don't want to ding the hull too often if you're using weak/no shields.

The T6 also suffers horribly from a small FSD, while you get good jump range unladen as soon as its full of 100tonnes it suffers from a massive drop off in range.
The T6 is brilliant for regular trading, not sure about rares trading.

I bought a T6 and kept my Cobra too. I grind for a while a 1300/1400 trade route in the 6 then bounty hunt/missions in the Cobra. With the money from the T6 I have the Cobra kitted out and I'm close to affording a T7 and being able to upgrade and afford insurance.

In other words, yes.

I traded with my cobra until I could afford the t6 with the a class fsd, and started trading with that. kept the cobra, and not too long I had a t6 for trading , cobra for exploring, and viper for bounty hunting, all upgraded with class a modules (except the t6, kept some d class for jump range)

Fun tidbit if you trade in open: I like to carry a mine launcher on my t6, then when I find the actual pirate (not silly rabid dogs who just pew pew people who cant defend themselves), who asks for a bit of cargo, I like to drop a few mines with it, just to make it that much harder for them as I fly away unscathed. I carry a cargo scanner also, and scan them as they scan me. No point dropping 20t of cargo when they can only carry 10.

I only trade in rares with my T6. Never had a problem with jump range and only been successfully interdicted twice, once by a noob who started blasting as soon as we dropped out of SC so a couple of Torpedoes sent him to oblivion and the second time tonight, a very decent chap in an Asp who said hello, then hit me with laser fire and straight away apologised saying "wrong button" may have been just letting me know he was serious or couldve been a mistake, but i dropped 20t and we parted with no further incident.

Very Pleased with my T6 and Torpedoes

Just (last night) traded in my Cobra for the Type 6. With 3Mil Credits in the bank and trade in on the Cobra (I got over 3Mil back, which gave me 6ish total), I maxxed out everything (excluding a couple of bits for jump range), then still had enough to fill up the cargo and Insurance.

I kept my Eagle last upgrade but now that is sitting some 1000 Ly away, so decided not to keep my ship. My aim is the Asp for the whole jack of all trades until I can afford (and afford to run) a Python :D

Loooooong way off.

This decision really depends on what you want to do. If you plan on being mostly a trader, then YES. I purchased a T6 and found it to be a worthy upgrade for hauling from my Cobra. I then converted the Cobra to an armed explorer and used the T6 for freight grinding.

The first time I sat in the T6 I was awed by the view. MUCH better than the Cobra, IMO.

Finally, after grinding the credits, I bought into an Asp. While the cargo hauling is less than the T6, the handling, combat capability, and VIEW is superior to the T6 or Cobra. Sold the Cobra after a few day once I had enough to make the Asp into a capable all-round combat explorer with decent hauling (80 tons vs my T6 100).

The T6 can get very decent jump range with the A rated FSD and mine is currently superior in range fully loaded to the Asp I am running with (C rated FSD). Then again, I saved a little weight by dropping the weapons and replacing them with a chaff launcher and point defense turret (not that the PDT ever got used), and used mostly D rated equipment except the FSD and fuel scoop.

T6 is a great little space truck. I find the Asp more fun to fly, however. Plus, I do not feel the need to flee from annoying Eagles that demand I drop all my cargo. I keep wondering where the little gnats are going to pack the other 96 tons that they cannot collect... ^_^

I moved from a Cobra to a T6. I found I could make more from shorter safer trade routes than rare trading.

I’ve since upgraded the T6 to an Explorer and have left civilised space on my way to some Nebula's for some sightseeing. Jump range on a T6 is only just short of a fully mod ASP and much longer than a Cobra.

this here be the reason i enjoy this game so much pirates that respect there opponents ask for what they desire then leave you to go off in peace :)

I upgraded from a Cobra to a type 6 and ground away for a bit. Now I have an A class Type 6 and a mainly A class Cobra. When I get bored with trading I take out my Cobra and bounty hunt, do a bit of smuggling and waste a bit of time in combat instead of grinding runs earning lots of credits.
