Is anyone flying a Federal Dropship?

I wanted to buy one on my way to the Python, but it's cargo hold was just too pathetic. It costs twice the clipper but has a third the cargo space.

It would be great if they had implemented the gameplay it's intended for, passengers, but they haven't yet. It's on their to do list.

In the meantime, it would be great if they just added an internal slot for more space. Alas, this is highly unlikely to happen.

It has terrible shields, the worst maneuverability, horrible speeds, terrible cargo space, and ok hardpoints. Needs a serious buff for it to be worth the large amount of cash it costs.

IMO the dropship and the orca are useless in their present state and without their gameplay mechanic implemented. FD tossed them in just to meet the 15 ship promise.

I really liked the looks of the dropship, since it seems like it's halfway between a spaceship and a bomber plane, but it costs a bunch and you need Fed ranks (although rumor has it you can get around that by being allied to a station that sells it, haven't confirmed that myself).

However, after lurking a few threads about them in the past, general concensus is what you see here. Hardcheese above said what is essentially the forum-wide summary review of the ship. As much as it pains me to say, avoid it like the plague until those players with tons of cash to burn buy one sometime down the road and let the rest of us know it's not so bad.

This does certainly work with the clipper, so I would assume the same mechanic with the Feds.
I was able to get the clipper while a squire, friendly with empire, and allied with the selling station.

Did work. That particular loophole has apparently been patched on the sly :)

That was supposedly fixed, although how it got in as a "bug" in the first place is beyond me

No! That's terrible. It was a great mechanic. There are black markets where I can sell other human beings against their will in sectors of space in which it is expressly illegal to do so. It stands to reason that if I get friendly enough with a station that they'd be willing to 'forget a background check' on my clipper purchase.

Until a federal navy vessel Admiral sees a commander with the rank of peasant in a Federal Dropship and wonders just how exactly he got it...

People are being sold as slaves here on this planet today. But no mafia Boss has a Leopard 2A6 in his garage.
