Is anyone holding off playing ED to death....

Im waiting for the end of this month now. But even if i wanted to play im to tired from work.... id just die alot, or fall asleep at my desk.

...until they receive their Oculus DK2 ? I want to experience things for the first time in full 3d as it should be.

Partly DK2 (I am a day 1 pre-order there!) but mostly I need them to release actual content! :D ....I just can't get motivated to play in the skeleton game at the moment now that the shock and awe of seeing a new version of Elite has faded.

Yep guilty as charged. It was because I was waiting for my joystick to arrive. But now I am wondering to wait for the Oculus too and for more content. I am hoping the Standard Beta build is significant. All this talk about griefers having around stations isn't helping either. But the single player mode is coming soon, so that will be a great incentive.:D

No because I wouldn't be seen dead wearing one of those things. Its just a game.

And no I am not holding off playing it because I dont have the choice, but either way I wouldnt want to play the game in an infinished state. I bought several games as Early Access or Beta versions and by the time they were released (some still aren't released - Kerbal I am looking at you) I was bored of them already. I dont want that to happen here so I only want to play it when its complete, or as near as dammit (ie gamma).

Its your choice of course, but TBH I dont understand either of your reasons

1) the rift isnt a fashion accessory so its not like you will be seen outside in it

2) Its only a game I dont get either.... surely even though it is only a game you want it to be as good as it can be?....

Like I said each to their own, and I am just chatting to pass the time but..... you are wrong :D :p

I do agree with you about playing incomplete games can ruin them however

.

Have you tried it? I was ambivalent about the Rift till I tried one at Eurogamer Expo last September, and I knew I had to have one. I'd recomend giving one a bash.... and having your Credit Card to hand when you do. :D

I actually recommend *not* holding off. :)

I played it a bit without rift first, then tried it with DK1 and was able to appreciate the value of the rift since I had a basis for comparison.

Also, I think if you were to try both for the first time at the same time, it would be too much to take in! Even playing ED without rift for the first time there's a lot to get your head around.

Yeah, taking it a little easy at the moment as well. I feel like I have been doing things over and over now. Once in a while I find something to ticket, but the hours and hours of grinding took me where I am now, thinking I've done all I can.

Nah, I prefer TrackIR for now, at least until HMD's have the same kind of resolution as my monitor.

I am, however, holding off slightly so I don't get bored with the game before release. But who am I kidding, I know I'll play day and night as soon as the next big update comes out.

I ordered a DK2 but have been playing the crap out of Elite anyway.
Still reckon it'll blow my socks off and I have a feeling I'm in for a long wait on my DK2 (ordered in may).

I'm quite happy with the Track IR to be honest - when the OR comes down to a reasonable price, maybe then I'll get one. There are still questions about its use for me - in a real dogfight you'd have to physically look around all the time, which often led to pilots getting stiff necks. With Track IR, you only have to move your head a little to see behind you. While being able to look all the way round might be more realistic and a lot more immersive, gaming is about fun not potentially getting a stiff neck.

Do what some have done and take a break for a while. The worst thing to happen would be burn out. We have some new game play elements coming up in the new version, and along with the grouping and chat features it might be easier to make some friends along the way.

I'm really looking forward to those elements.

I have stopped playing but more to avoid it detracting from my enjoyment of the original game. I'll definitely be back on when my DK2 arrives though :D
