IS cob mk 3 good enough foe Beagle 2

Given people got out there before engineering, and I believe you only need 34Ly jump range (without using jumponium), it should be very possible.

I can get a light-weight Cobra MK3 to 40-43Ly:

And my regular mission Cobra (weapons and shields) gets 34-ish without trying to hard: build

Best of luck!

@ Stinja: Nice ship. What's the jump range on it if you switch from 4E thrusters to the lighter 4D?

Not sure, I did that screenshot a while ago for Un1corn iirc, and that outpost only had 4Es. If I do some theorycrafting in Coriolis, with modules I own or could easily engineer, I can get the MK3 to 44.3Ly jump range.

That's without a SRV, so I don't really consider it viable to do proper exploring.

You can get there in any ship with jump range and a fuel scoop, but it really depends on your boredom and/or pain threshold!

I suspect there are routes for shorter jump ranges, but the shortest one I've seen was Roncevaux Crossing, for a 25 LY ship.

There are a couple of good routes for 33 LY ships that are faster and have some interesting sights along the way. Route 33 is a 33 LY path through the Abyss, which is the toughest part of the journey. It includes a very pretty planetary nebula along the way, Distant View in Blue:

Smuggler's Path is another route through the Abyss to and from Beagle Point that's usable by any 33 LY ship.

I toyed around with Coriolis, and it looks to me like the target jump range for a flexible explorer build is probably around 37 ly. (Obviously you can do better with careful engineering, or leaving some things behind, but I like to think in terms of a "target" with standard engineering)

* Example here.

EDIT: Corrected build.

You can use a 2A Power plant (runs cooler for scooping), and lighter. Likewise 1D Power Distributor, engineered with Engine capacity still lets you boost. You only need one heat sink launcher, as you can synthesise more limpets, again saving weight/power.

I can get 42.20Ly as a full explorer with my FSD, but this would take a bit of engineering ;)

Oh man, I just misclicked. I meant to put an A-rated one in that. I'll fix it.

EDIT: Fixed in the previous post. This is what happens when you rush. ;)
