Is combat rank working as intended?

So Ive seen the charts, read the posts and tried all manner of different ships and approaches but my combat rank is still barely budging!

This commander slot I'm using is currently only at "expert" and I'm am squashing ship after ship in a compromised nav beacon that are all ranked significantly higher than me with still barely a dent to the rank increase.

I would expect to see such little progress if I were deadly or above but at this rate I'll never even reach "master" [knocked out]

I'm here since Alpha and don't ever remember progress being this slow. Have the parameters been changed?

Thanks but I really have tried everything. Tried the Haz Res and that did seem a little faster - maybe 10% jump per hour or two, but it feels so slow! Like really slow... I can only imagine what deadly must be like!

I've read so many posts on points per kill vs rank difference, but I'd like to hear a Dev opinion on this, as the latest comments implied you get something irrespective of rank difference. Perhaps this has inadvertently slowed down the progress when engaging with deadly and elite ships?

Short version... it's taking way too long to hit master IMO
 
If you are using a SLF, your pilot will be taking a little over half of your combat rank credit for every kill you make. If it's combat rank you want, do NOT use a SLF to assist you! You can confirm this by looking up the combat points needed per percent point of combat rank and seeing when this increments as you kill ships.

And yes, combat rank is painfully slow above Dangerous.

I have been using civil unrest/civil war systems the massare missions seem to be pushing me along plus a bit of extra creds
 
I added about 7% on my progress from Deadly to Elite by spending around 4 hours in CZ at the weekend. I was actually going for Massacre mission, so was looking for higher numbers of kills, but I hit every Deadly and Elite enemy vessel I saw. I guess in total around 500 ships, but far few were high rated (but also, very few so low ranked as to not count for me).

Since I got to Dangerous, I feel I've only really seen significant rank progress when in CZs, and I guess thats simple down to the high number of kills you can get.

In short; seems to be working fine for me.

i’ve made combat elite three times now on Xbox, PS4 and PC and it is very slow progress. Don’t use an SLF as they steal your progress. I also had a bug on PS4 where my progress from expert to master was incredibly slow, it turned out that the game had rolled two ranks together and I never progressed to master but went straight to Dangerous although I had to get the two ranks worth of XP.
