Is Direct Mode working well now?

I heard a comment on the Lave Radio podcast that Direct mode is now working well in ED. Is that correct?

It's been working great for me for several version now. Not sure why because even in iracing it's been great in direct but others have complained that it doesn't for them. Strange but I'm not complaining. Direct mode is so much more convenient for me.

I've having the following issues, are you guys?

- Mirroring of stereo display to desktop monitor
- Refresh locked to desktop monitor spec (60hz)
- ED crashes on exiting

I get all of these issues

I have overclocked the mode on my main monitor to get 75 hz

However, even with a 7990 in direct or extended mode the FPS is under 60fps which is bad.

I get the mirror display but I always get that with any app or game I play in direct so maybe it's by design? Not sure.

As far as refresh rate I don't know because I haven't checked it. Play is smooth though with mild judder or blurry if I move my head d too much but that's mostly in stations only.

I really wish I could make the mirror image display just a regular undistorted view. It would help me take price notes quickly at the start of a trading session instead of lifting and lowering the rift repeatedly.

It's been working for a while, but without low persistence being stuck at 60Hz. You can tell by moving your head left & right while looking at bright objects like the shield indicator HUD. They would show double image. I've tried lowering my main monitor resolution to get 75Hz but that doesn't help.

One thing to note is that the game takes longer to start in direct mode for some reason. At first I thought it crashed and killed the process in taskmanager, only realized it was working one time I walked away from my computer while it was loading.

Direct mode works fine for me, but seems to be incompatible with SLI. The image flickers horribly and it's unplayable. SLI works fine in extended mode, though.

I would like to get this working, all apps trying to run in direct mode just crash before it's even started and I don't know why.

Try to create a shortcut for the demo and add this "-force-d3d11"

Sometimes it will make it work, sometimes no. Also, if the demo was compiled in a different SDK version than what you're using, it won't work.

So I did try it and I'm seeing the same issues plus major stutter when looking around in highly lit areas as posted by someone else. Seems to work much better in extended mode

Same for me too, I get flickering in SLI with any driver other than Nvidia 344.80.

I also get massive pauses when approaching stations with directmode on, running 2x780's

Direct mode seems to be a performance killer for me.

Everything works correctly and when I'm getting 75fps, the head tracking is great. But it drops below 75fps way more often. The difference is significant enough that I only use extended mode.

I'm finding that this seems to be true for all direct mode games (iracing included). There must be something about direct mode that requires either extra rendering resources or causes some extra synchronization between the rendering and game engine that stalls the rendering. Either way the perf hit isn't worth the trade off for lower latency motion tracking imho.

Same here. Direct mode works fine technically. In the first menu screen everything is great and a steady 75fps; but in game the frame rate is noticeably lower than extended mode for me.

Menus are steady 75 FPS for me but I notice a big lag for headtracking. In game it goes down to exactly 37.5 FPS. So I think there is a bug in direct mode in ED which forces 'double vsync' instead of vsync to every single frame. Extended is fine at 75 fps without any lag.
