Personally I would go for a reinstall of Windows.

just goes to pieces after about 6 months usage,

I have been using the same OS win8.1x64 for the last 2 yrs, not needed to reinstall OS once. this has been achieved on a ssd. hdd yes I agree goes to pot after a while

I also use the GTX 970 which is fully customized dual-fan called MSI TwinFrozr cooler and a custom board design with new voltage-regulation circuitry. The card is also overclocked to a base clock of 1114 MHz out of the box which is cooled indeed. May be its fault of video recorder.
