Is ED skill depending game?

Is ED skill depending game? what you guys think? My opinion it's not. For a success in pvp you need to now some basic rules and its ok. Space sim with plane like dogfights ends when you hit FA off button,so on bigger less maneuverable ship you just boost hit FA off,and you can always face off your enemy. Laser weapons, gimbaled and you dont need to know how to aim, i know that more skill depending game means less pl, but is Elite to arcade? PLS write your opinion.

I don't believe it's to arcade, however I don't mind more SIM like direction. The FA-OFF is great and should not be nerf. Actually an eagle can beat an Anaconda if the pilot is skilled enough.
Skills are not just flying, it's also how to setup your ship.

I don't know what the G-forces are in ED's cockpits, however implementing a G-Force meter and some game mechanics around that could be fun.

I think it is pretty skill based. I've managed to get some pretty decent kills in ships that are drastically out gunned simply because I maneuvered it to avoid fire and to target systems effectively.

It's fine as it is, it's one of those games that easy to pickup but is difficult to master. Yes the bots are sometimes easy but pvp offsets this. Elite back in the day required a little skill this has been brought over to ED and it's getting the feel of Elite back which should not be altered because loads of people whine it's this or that :)

The reason i always take a chaff launcher over an extra shield booster, it weeds out the people using gimballed to those using fixed weapons

I use 4 fixed Plasma Accelarators and I can tell you that someone using gimballed weapons will lose massively if they rely on them because they won't be able to hit me

It is a skill based game, as you also need to know when to use FA off and on to get the best out of it, just using it won't get you anywhere, using it at the right time will

weirdly I've been testing gimballed burst lasers and they don't seem to be to bothered by chaff, in res sites they are but in navpoints it doesn't which is weird. I'm gonna switch back to me fixed laser anyways as gimballed seems to take the fun out of the kill.

I believe the answer is a positive one. YES and NO. The game is well balanced. There are some endeavors in the game that take quite a bit of skill and some activities that do not take as much skill. Some players want to be challenged and some just want a causal experience they can be successful at . Many games offer only one or the other experience but it, truly, does “takes all kinds to make the world go around” and I feel as though, so far, FD has done a great job at that. And, please, do not forget that to most people, in most cases, “skill” is a “relative” term.

there is zero skill required to master this game against the AI or trading (you can even beat anaconda's with a A rated sidewinder.)

in pvp there is skill involved, but its heavily nerfed by high waking, infinite scb's and other gimmicks that make it ridiculous

If someone is serious about pvp, they will be using fixed weapons, so gimballed weapons will be useless. This is where the sill in knowing how to maneuver and aim your weapons will be required, because you can slot multiple chaff, meaning endless gimbal confusion, meaning you don't land any hits(unless you untarget your target).

I think this pretty much sums it up perfectly. Now if there was a limit of like 2 scb's per ship with a cool down of like 15 seconds things might be a bit more interesting... Anyway I'm going off topic.

It depends on how skilled your opponent is in PvP. Youtube is strewn with PvP dogfights, most are between average pilots (regardless of their fed pilot status or ship they are flying). But now and again there are some exceptional pilots that are using all of the mechanics available to beat equal and sometimes vastly superior ships and good pilots.

FA off to do a 180 is not a fight winner and can be countered in several ways. However fighting with FA off all the time obviously takes a lot of skill and practice. Gimballed weapons is countered by chaff, and knowing the opposing ship's weapons layout.

sorry but do we play same game? eagle beats anaconda? omg.

ok. that's your opinion.. i will always use gimbaled in pvp .. first it's cose gimbaled and fixed dmg difference is not so great, and cose gimbaled have more aiming radius it have more dmg at time.. ahh this magic chaff.. well if you deselect your targed you have fixed..

There's two factors. Time invested is the primary one. However, if you're talking about PvP, once *enough* time is invested, then it's all about skill.

Definitely a lot of skill in PVP and not just the twitch based kind (which would be more arcadey as a lot of arcade games typical reward good twitch based play.) There's the skill in equipping your ship for the task at hand (or equipping it for multiple tasks as you'll rarely know what kind of opponent you'll be up against in advance.) During a fight you've got to think about ship positioning, threat detection (especially when not just 1vs1) lining up your shot, maintaining regular targetting of your opponent, defensive measure management, heat management, when to switch targets, knowing if and when to run, how to run and one of the most important is probably pip management. Constantly switching up your pips to maintain a decent combination of weapon power, shield defence and engine power for the occasional boost.

I've seen some people post videos and have commentors on here post about their opposition (or them) being average, but it's easy to shout "switch pips to weapons/keep more range etc" but when you're actually flying and trying to consider and manage all the variables of your ship and your opponent it's a different kettle of fish. Even the best rarely fight "the perfect fight" because there is so much to take into consideration that can change in seconds.

Well .. in my opinion ED is not skill based game, yeah you need to know some basic things about it.. but that's all. I will repeat its just my opinion i didn't write Braben please make this and this. I have some exp in a games like "IL-2" and "War Thunder" and they are skill based games.. if you know how to handle your plane.. how to use thrust.. how to aim you can beat 2-3 less skilled pl. ED is more about Shield cell banks, speed,FA off.. But still i really enjoy training 2 sidewinders , and type-9 atack.. play them for 100 times.. just regret is lack things like this in game.

Combat is skill based, in the form of piloting tactics and hand eye coordination, it's really not much different to a typical FPS game it's just much slower, players need to understand the ships and the flight models for each, the most dominant weapons are hitscan based (pules/beam), FD needs to balance weapons more, so that all feel effective/viable! but still retain unique qualities (FD go look at the weapons in quake), and while gimballed/turreted weapons do provide some autoaim, they can be cancelled out via chaff, this means that players will need to use hand eye coordination to be accurate with fixed weapons. One thing missing is the typical maps that players would need to learn in a typical FPS.

Other aspects of game require less skill and more logic thinking, but retain things such as the ability to fly a ship.

yes gimballed weapons potentially have a higher actual hit rate than fixed weapons, and I already mentioned deselecting your target if chaff is used, which still requires skill to use fixed weapons because that is essentially what you're doing.
