Engineers Is engineering mines worth it?

For those of you who have done it, what are the pluses? I have a long range modded python with a 35 LY jump range with nothing but cargo holds and mines. It makes short work of NPC's that interdict me....I was thinking of modding my mines.

As for getting access I see that it needs 1,000,000 credits of combat bonds? I assume they have to be new kills? Or does it accept previous kills? I have not tried CZ's since the engineers came out but did plenty before....

Definitely, I have the shield damage mod and damage boosted mode on 2, 2I mine launchers on my Trade Cutter. Great fun to watch those Elite Anacondas shields go down permanently and frequently they disengage and high wake out. There's an engine damage mod I'd like to get and then just turn around and burn them down from their blind spot..
Mines in CZ are problematical unless you can get them to chase you away from your allies, mines don't care who they blow up on and causing collateral damage to your allies won't endear them to you.
