Ships Is FAS decent in PvP nowadays?

Interesting.
my fas is also overheating, but it's not a big problem for me, probably different ways of playing
my second fas, with rail plasmas:

doesn't work that well. i'm dying to fast (overall i'm not good with rails)
maybe pacifiers and frags are nice. (have not tried)

FAS while preety strong on its own, once it lose its shields(very low base values), wich are not really strong anway, its very weak vs missiles. Bit more than other hulltanks out there, due of most its hardpoint placement being too close to front, no need even to subtarget a weps, missiles AOE covers those without needing aim at weapons...

Some FAS hulltanks runs dual PD wich can make them almost immune to regular seeker missles. But against packhounds, even dual PD wont stop all of those (utilty placement allows max 2 PD to cover front area of FAS), but it will give a FAS bit more time to stay in fight. Seen macro-ed triple ECM bulids too, wich are only viable way to stop a packhounds launchers being auto-win vs FAS, but this will make it weaker vs gimballs or not enough "stealthy" due of lack enough of HS/chaff.

Other FAS weak point its exposed PowerDistro if directly faced up-front or front. Its very easy to take it with railguns, or gimballed weps, and this weakness is shared with dropship and gunship. If faced directly, subtargeting a cargo hatch, is directly in line with cocpit canopy hitbox as well, and its quite exposed if aimed correctly.

Despite of all of this, its still amazing ship, and many love flying them. Probly cuz of higher than others a missle weakness, those cmdrs are among ones who hates missiles users most.

PvPeing in Shinra just showed me that any decent pilot with superpen rails with just kill your modules extremely fast once shields are down. Rails are my bane in hulltanky FAS.

FAS will lose most of the time even when missiles and railguns aren’t involved. Competitors are either shield tanks or have larger slot for bi-weave, larger distro, plus more optionals.

A properly built FAS will be much stronger when Frontier tames Thermal Conduit so it doesn’t lose its shields at every damn pass.

In my expierience I'd stay away from shield boosters and shield reinforcement packs that add to recharge. The quicker the shield recharges the better! So... 5C thermal bi-weave + a single or two OE res augmented shield boosters without super-capacitors as they add to recharge time. Reachrge & recovery should happen in 30s-40s, in pvp every second is a precious time and waiting one minute for a recovery may cost you a rebuy, I tried that and super fast recharge of highly resistant shield worked for me better. Rest of utility slots to be filled with chaffs & pdt's, reinforced as you would want these modules to stay active for possibly longest time. With skillful handling during combat you should able to fly with recharged shield. FAS is definitely worth trying.

I agree, but still FAS has its charms, and its bit better in some areas than rest of ships that can be biwave hulltanks. Mostly notable, is about how "protected" thrusters are and boost times and turn rates.

Kraits 3sec boost is quite compromised by drag effects and nowhere as nible as FAS, while cheftain can turn as fast as FAS, but it got quite exposed 4 drives than can easly killed by missiles or good aim, while FAS drives are most difficult to kill compared to kraits or cheftain ships.

Good FAS pilot never show its back to opponent, wich can make killing its thrusters very hard or impossible. Cheftain on other hand, its drives can be killed from any angle.

also think that the fas has its justification
chieftain is handier but also bitchier
fdl similarly pleasant flight behavior, however, requires a lot of pip management
krait better armored but also sluggish in comparison

apart from that, fas flying is fun 🤩
