It is likely that Planet Coaster is going to be Frontier's cash cow. There is a lot of excitement for it and the genre has a much larger market that space games have.

Elite is Braben's baby...I would predict that if ED wasn't pulling a sufficient profit, it would be buoyed by revenue from Planet Coaster.

However, based on their last financial report (which includes development on two games, only one of which is generating revenue) ED is doing healthily enough and probably will for the foreseeable future.

As for the state of the game, well, we all have gripes but nothing I've seen so far looks like a company short on money. To see what that behavior looks like, see recent articles on Star Citizen refunds.

Elite isn't the only thing they are developing.

Expansions and quality control however have not been up to scratch at all.

This is not a productive discussion and invites needless controversy and fear mongering.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I don't think Frontier wants their forum to be used to facilitate "sky is falling" speculation about their financial viability.
