Is Google buying out HTC (Vive division)?

"HTC has today announced it is about to halt trading of its shares tomorrow in anticipation of a “major announcement,”. Earlier this month, the company was rumored to be in the final stages of negotiating a takeover with Google, and today’s news appears to be setting the stage for that buyout becoming official."

So will the future scenario be Facebook (Rift) vs Google (Vive)? (oh, and vs Pimax too.. hmm what if Alibaba buys Pimax..)

Would this be a good development? or a bad one?

By definition, anything that involves Microsoft, Google, or Facebook, is BAD!

Let me append that to include Mozilla. Of course, I use Windows, Rift, and Firefox. [blah]

Makes sense... subliminal Google ads flashing every 10 frames. Of course I'm using Rift and have the desire to click on people I don't know and be friends with them. [noob]

Depends on whether it's only the smartphone section that's bought or the whole thing, including the Vive brand. Long ago HTC smartphones were innovative while at the same time budget friendly, but now they're just very expensive.

At this point in the VR world, I wouldn't mind spending for quality and comfort. I would like a system that reduces or eliminates the screen door effect. I'm not trusting the Pimax until it's a real product with consistently good reviews. Either way, it looks heavier than Oculus.

My big question: Why are the 2 big information gathering companies interested in VR? Seriously, this is weird.

Putting a device on our heads and being able to read everything that goes in and out of it is just one step closer to putting a chip in our heads!!!!

This is for their phone business only. HTC make good phones (I owned two), but they never sold well against Sammy and Moto.
