Is Hacking still a problem?

After reading some posts about hackers adjusting their settings to give themselves an edge, I went looking around online for some answers- I found a few sites where there seemed to be active hackers really exploiting ED.
Not knowing much about programming or hacking I'm not sure if this is happening on a large scale or not, and wondered if these things have been fixed or are even fixable.

These posts on some forums spoke about this very thing- infinite shields and stopping the other players shields from regenerating. Even supplying the complete code to use. I'm not sure but I think I was a victim of one of these invincible ships.

One post even told about sheilds so powerful that he could fly full speed into a station wall and bounce off.

Either hacking is overstated or hackers just don't venture to my corner of space. Personally, I've witnessed no evidence of cheating. It probably is happening, but if you wan tto get away from it you can.

Honestly, I tend to stay away from heavily populated systems So I have yet to encounter a hacker. Most of the time, they'll hang around core systems with a lot of activity/trade looking for relatively easy pickings. *

The smarter ones on the other hand make it look like they aren't really hacking at all to avoid detection.

*based on previous experiences in other games

There are rumors that hacking is still ongoing. However I personally haven't met pilots who would be suspect. Also I would like to point out that publishing information about hacks on forums are forbidden according to new rules. Maybe that's why people avoid talking about it. If you know someone who hacks or exploit unreported please ticket it under exploit category.

This. Obviously FD dont want anyone to say anything in fear that others get ideas and know what type of hack/exploit is used and to then seek it out. If you see something just ticket it and keep it hush hush. :)

I dont know anyone, who would notice any hacking. And there are more than 250 pilots in our group...

My guess is, that if someone is such a to play with hacks, hes probably doing it in the solo mode :D.

Most likely it will be creds buff exploit/hack. I doubt we will see hackers using their tools against other players, because they will be outed very fast then.

I think for the guy accused here of hacks it turned out to be the game mechanics du jour and he got punished for using profanity in chat before slaying his victims :)

From the posts in public places where this is being discussed it would appear that most of the hacking is limited to the Solo game in an attempt to grind credits. Which is bad enough, because many of those megacredits will no doubt make their way into Open hardware eventually unless FD can detect it. A handful of posts, and certain YouTube videos, would also suggest one or two people have taken these hacks into Open play but it's not rampant yet.

It is a worry, though. The architecture of ED does seem to leave it wide open for a whole bunch of attacks that can only be mitigated by further obfuscation and/or detection through telemetry. But of course for every developer working on locking the code down there are potentially hundreds of adversaries waiting to tear into its next iteration. In the long run the numbers aren't on FD's side.

What hacking, if it exists its not widespread, I never saw or heared about it. I did saw whiners make XXXX posts about "hackers" killing them but in truth it was either some bug or they just got owned in open mode.

I dont play open because I cant risk losing big ships, I dont want to farm for hours just because Im training combat vs players. And Im immune to any sort of hacking.

In my personal experience with online games, hacks don't get fixed until EVERYONE knows about them. Until they start to hurt the game financially there is less incentive to fix them.

Its probably an issue in the sense of a global term, as in people using exploits to gain more credits and getting the best ships super fast etc. Theres also some small instances of some unfortunate folks being caught by the odd hacker thats managed to exploit shields and weapons so theyre pretty much indestructable - i havent seen any physical proof of this though yet, although there are websites stating they have done this. Bottom line is, you can avoid any chance of encountering these so called "hackers" by either joining a private group such as mobius or just playing solo. Theres a way around it, its open play thats the most vulnerable at the moment.

If hacking is still going on I'm not playing open play ever again.

I'm guessing if you could hack your ship equipment and profits then you can hack your rank and be the first one to win the 10k prize. Either way, you would have a fast track toward winning it.

Anyway, hackers are missing the fun of the game, which is why they probably have fun sitting inside space stations shooting us all. That would be the only fun thing left to do after becoming invincible.
