Is honking still worth it?

Does doing a system honk as you fly through have any [monetary] advantage anymore, or is it just the prelude to the FSS?

I do the honk on entering a new system because I'd rather do it while flying the ship & looking for danger than sit stationary in the FSS Scanner screen for an extra 5 seconds.

If you only honk (either way) without scanning anything you will get some money equivalent to the old ADS honk, plus the full value of all stars in the system, plus any automatically fully scanned nearby bodies.

So yes, it's still worth doing.

Oh, I thought you had to enter the FSS to honk now. Can someone please explain how to honk without opening the FSS (seriously)? Thanks.

Thanks! Will try tonight. TBH it was only recently I found out how to change HUD mode in SC. I always previously assumed I had to drop out and activate the hard points! User manual not exactly helpful on this.

I've assigned the Discovery Scanner to a Fire Group, when I am in 'Analysis Mode', just trigger it on arriving into a system.

I then use the FSS to detect any remaining signals, provided it doesn't go all 'Tokyo Drift' on me. Fortunately that has only happened a handful of times on my galaxy tour.

I always honk-jump when I'm travelling, just out of habit.

Did that on the way back from Colonia and when I arrived back in the bubble I has something like Cr6m of "exploration data" to sell so I assume honking must still be worth something.

A trip to Colonia just honk and jump generates a little over cr50m, a bit dependent on your jump range so therefore number of jumps required. The distance for this is about 22klys. If you take it slower and scan stuff it can be a great deal more obviously, in fact you can get an astonishing amount of cash through exploration. Void Opals may be quicker but if you are going somewhere anyway it doesn't hurt to generate a few million on each trip.

My personal view is that even if the returns aren't great (from just honking) you might as well because 1) every little helps and 2) if you aren't allied with a faction selling the data is a speedy way to do so.

I tend to sit on my data and use it for that purpose. I'm now allied with every faction with a half decent station in the Colonia bubble this way

How did you only get cr6m? I get page after page of 3-5 million and always get bonuses for finding entire systems - basically the ones with one or two stars only but the bonuses for those can be cr1m
