i have been looking for a group for a few weeks here now and there only seems to be 2 maybe 3 american time zone groups and not saying anythings wrong with them its just there not for me, in short that it 3 groups in my time zone? pst or west coast United states
is it a waste of time?

Not in the US i'm afraid but maybe if you listed what you are looking for in more detail (open play/private group/PvP/PvE/Fed/Alliance/Activities/etc) someone might be able to point you towards something.
