Is it even worth storing bookmarks any more?

Like most Elite: Dangerous players I store bookmarks, and I categorise them (using number prefixes) into categories such as Points of Interest, Colonia Sites, Alien sites etc.

I was away from the game recently for a week. At the time I stopped playing there had been six Thargoid bases found. This was brilliant, I'd visited each of them and bookmarked them all. In that week though the list of Thargoid Bases expanded to over 120.

I also keep bookmarks of all the bases and outposts at Colonia. This list though is rapidly and massively expanding.

All in all, my bookmarks list is getting very unwieldy. I could do with an expandable bookmarks page to be honest to better categorise these things, and more bookmarks too.

Anyway, that's a suggestion and this is a discussion. My question is, do you think it's actually worth keeping bookmarks on things like Colonia bases and Thargoid sites at all, or should we rely on online databases instead?

I'd bookmark the most interesting ones, like the active bases, then just leave the rest on the database if you're not likely to visit them too often. Or at all. :)

I still need to bookmark Jacques Station in Colonia. I can never remember the system name! (Why doesn't it have a normal name by now? :p)

Bookmark categories would be nice, and I would wish for many many more. Currently, I still have all those 1kly waypoints bookmarked from my trips to Colonia and Sag A*, and I would rather not delete them, for finding the next system for the route planner was a rather tedious task every 25 jumps, in particular around Sag A* where there are so many stars that the planner starts choking. Apart from that, I only bookmark the systems I use the most, 16 more for the engineers ofc, some POIs and some temporary ones for the CG locations.

Yo,

Agree, there needs to be some bookmark love.

Including ability to share book marks via chat window.

Order and categorise bookmarks.

Colour code bookmarks.

Filter galaxy display by bookmark type.

The bookmark system was indeed a very welcome one.
But it most definitely should get a facelift.

I do, of course, hope this comes soon. [yesnod]

For places that I am not going to want to visit frequently online databases and they will work well for the stuff everybody might be interested in, but for places you will want to visit frequently and personalised rares routes the bookmarks are better one of the things I add to mine and adapt each week are CG destinations and sources.

Bookmark management tools would be a great quality of life boost.

I'm not too worried about the bookmark list becoming unwieldy but I'm halfway around the galaxy on an expedition and running out of bookmarks to show my routes, would love to have some more to keep it marked:-s.

I use the 'visited systems' filter to see my route, and delete waypoint bookmarks as I reach them. I use a few bookmarks to remind me short-term about places I used jumponium to reach if I'm not sure I'll be able to get out the other side (nebulae etc).

I only use them to mark my home planet, current A-B trade partner locations, and CG commodity provider locations, so the list is constantly in flux and relatively short. It's pretty much my only way of getting around the nav map in VR, so it's been a big help, but I want the ability to name/add info to these bookmarks, both to identify them to me after a break from the game, and to group them by common usage.

I'm fearing I am coming closer and closer to the limit. I have started to record everything down outside the game in Inara Quick Notes for now as well in preparation for the time I need to start deleting some of these alien sites etc. Save looking it all up later on if I want to revisit. For now I am still good, use some prefixes to help sort the list but I can feel the day quickly approaching where I need to start deleting some.

Would be a great QOL improvement, some folders, tags, colours, increased limited .. surface bookmarks etc.

You are all entitled, spoiled, handheld kiddies! :)

(Why fix GalMap, when you can introduce new ports, and unwanted features?)
