Is it inevitable to do something stupid and go splat?

I'm a good pilot.

No, really. On a good day I can make a run at the mailslot at a perpendicular angle on Flight Assist off, kick in the boosters, breeze in the slot and land on a landing pad pat even if a Type 9 is blocking the slot.

...and that's the problem, iddnit? You start getting cocky and when that happens eventually someday, inevitably, you're going to pay for it.

I was pulling said stunt the other day when I realized too late my timeing had been off and I was going to clip the top of the station instead of drift along to the mailslot position. In a panic I tried to get out of there, but an Asp has inertia like you wouldn't believe and it was too late.

SPLAT. Wall pizza. (fortunately I made my ejection roll, see link in signature)

So I'm wondering how many other people feel like this kind of thing is inevitable. That being good is almost a bad thing.

Good leads to cocky. Cocky leads to sloppy. Sloppy leads to... suffering. :D [/Yoda]

When I'm tired, Elite shows me how badly it affects my judgment and reflexes.

This pretty much sums it up, and I have bad luck that my son wakes up and starts crying just as I request docking, and instead of cancelling and trying later; I rush and crash.

Yep,

It pretty much is inevitable. Unless of course you apporach the game by flying it like a modern airliner with lots of checklists and specific methods in different aspects of flight. No booze (12 hours bottle to throttle), illness nor tiredness (well, that's debatable).

Otherwise, by playing it like a game you will screw up eventually ;)

Yup...I've been at this since May of last year. A month back I was trying my hand at sneaking goods that were....other wise procured.....hit the boost a little late going through the slot and slammed into the back of the dock...

It's happened to me before with 100T of cargo in my Type-6 but now that I keep my System pips set properly (and fly better) it doesn't really happen any more. If I do hit something it usually doesn't even take my shields off.

Inevitable is probably a good word though for it.

Wait till you get into the actual big ships.

I was running some scooped gold into a station after a bounty hunt with my Anaconda. Normally i never boost within 4km of the station, this time though i had stolen cargo on board and i was perfectly lined up with the letterbox. So i hit boost then immediately throttled back and went full reverse. After some tricky thrust burn off I brushed my belly on the back end of the docking bay, nothing my Shields couldn't handle though. But that mass... D grade thrusters ftw.

Hey folks, only just registered on the forums since I had no real reason to before (lurking).

Currently in a clipper in Shui Wei Sector FH-U B3-4 without enough fuel to get anywhere due to the recent galaxy/system map view showing the previous system instead of the one you are in.
Either way there's no stations to refuel and no way of escaping death so I have 143 rare items that are open to anyone that wants them.

I'll probably be sat here next to the Star in SC until someone claims them or until I run out of fuel (3T left) so if you're close come by and find me.

Yes, its inevitable that you will at some point mess up or loose concentration :p

I used to be very good at landing as in it was picture perfect, it got to the point that I forgot how to handle chaos creeping up to me. NOW i just giterin giterdown giterout anyway i can.:) It is not a pretty picture but i can right angle her through the slot and take the paint off a T9 and bounce her in and flash the shields and make the apron crew scater but hey they all know i am here, and now i expect the dangerous and i am ready:)

Also don't drink and fly! After a few beers i thought i could finish that trade run... splat!
Now i fly safe and installed a nifty little docking computer :D
You can still dock manually if you want but in case of alcohol, drugs or family let Sarah handle the docking :)

FA off, 180, FA on and boost again. Simples! Or so I thought when I saw it done by an experienced pilot

My attempt at this with a Cobra failed dismally. However, I think I must have set a record because the NPC in the unshielded T6 I took out along with my Cobra was probably just as impressed with my attempt as I was.

There are only 3 types of Pilots.

Those that have died while doing something they have done a thousand times before, Those that WILL die doing something they have done a thousand times before, and those that have not done something a thousand times yet.

holy that's profound. I like it.
