Call me stupid, but I like to help the NPCs. When I go mining and, upon arrival, see a Sidewinder getting one fragment at a time, I fire a prospector at the rock and blast it until depleted, then I watch the SW collecting all the fragments like he's hit the jackpot.
On the other hand, I feel really guilty when I stray too close to the NPC miners and my limpets jump across and steal their fragments. One time I collected one of their limpets somehow, and it showed in my cargo as stolen. Every time I abandoned it, it reappeared in my hold somehow. I finally got rid of it at the end of my session when I'd filled my cargo hold and refinery, so when I abandoned it, the refinery replaced it with painite, so it couldn't get back in.

Has anyone tried to fly into an NPC in supercruise ? After the umpteen-millionth failed Interdiction I've tried to literally kamikaze directly into the little SOB's, so far no luck.

Really ? I heard that as well, tried a couple of times to see having been very close but no luck yet.
Its very hard, usually have to do it with another player
