is it just me, or do stations seem to have duplicate names?

Not sure if this is intented, but I'm fairly certain that I've seen more than one Aristotle Gateway.

It's what happens when things get procedurally generated.

...but I'm sure there is probably more than one Red Lion pub in the UK so I don't think it's bad at all.

I think the larger problem is that pretty much every sttation name in the galaxy consists of one word which typically is the name of a famous person ''Aristotle, Hutton, Avogadro'', followed by a word which hints at the general function of the station ''Station, City, Terminal''.

EVERY. STATION.

THings like that happen in real life too, so it is no problem, unless stations have identical names in the same system.

Are you sure it's exactly the same? There could be 'Whatever' followed by Station, Platform, Ring, Dock, Landing, Outpost, Gateway, City, Terminal, Market, etc. I've seen the first word repeat in multiple systems but not the entire name.

That's easy since you can use the Galaxy Map for that.

Aristotle Gateway: Ross 780 (Station)
Aristotle Gateway: Yakabugai (Outpost)

It's not an issue per say, no, but I've seen many people getting prissy when X thing isn't located at X spaceport. Perhaps because it was actually located at a station with a identical name.
