Is it just me, or does anybody else hate the Python?

Wow. I've been using the Cobra Mk. IV for a bit, and A-Rated it, and it's actually a lot of fun! Even close to my Asp in how much I like it.
Had a play around with the Cobra IV on our resident Unicorns reccomendation. A-Rated it and set it up as a surface mission vessell. I have to say it's a great little multi-role for the price and sooo much storage for a small ship! :)

I actually just rebought my python, it can do everything well, with some seasoning on it, it's one hell of a multipurpose cruiser.

My Python sits in the hanger for months on end then I think ill give a go for a bit and remember why I dislike it so much.
I seem to be in the minority though it's probably the most flown ship I come across.
One point that bongo mentioned though turrets have been given a buff and are actually useful now ,I use them on all my big ships and I wouldn't touch them before 1.6.

Get and eagle, it destroys fighters with ease. if you're a skilled pilot go to LHS 3447 and go fire at anything that moves

#Fighterpilotlife.

Python is my favourite ship in the game, because it's the closest one to "perfect" balance for me:
- Decent jump range
- Very good firepower
- Enough internals and utility mounts to make it a good multipurpose
- Nice cockpit (like a Cobra's big brother) and nice design
- Medium size so can land at outposts

Biggest downside to me is the pitch rate, but that would make it too good a ship compared to the others. With mine, I do a bit of everything, and it fights well which is important since I mainly bounty hunt. I don't like switching ships, so a good bounty hunter that can also do other stuff is ideal for me. I played with it a bit in 2.1, it's still good enough in Hazres if I pick my targets cautiously and know when to run.

+1 to the Python lovers.

Best in game at present.

It's the ideal for 2.1

But as already stated, it needs to be A rated and modded ASAP. Once it has good jump range and thrusters it's the perfect ship for building Engineer's rep.

A multi-role ship will never out perform a role-specific ship. Even then both ships are limited by how they are equipped. The most important piece of equipment being what sits in the CMDR's chair.

If it's anything like my house that'll be the Wife (or the Budgie) ;-)

I realize the Asp isn't the best for combat but you can equip it so that your hull integrity is quite high, low shields, but also decent damage with the hardpoints. My Asp X is basically the anti pirate ship. I take their loot when I'm done killing anybody that pursues me.

Granted, I'm usually fighting backwards but it works if you adjust your combat play style. I don't engage large ships or elites but everything else is game, even vultures and smaller powerful fighters.

Never tried the python. I'd like to apply the same build to an anaconda at some point, though. But I like the Asp because I have the speed to get away from any fight and the chaff/defenses to never get hit.

I would suggest going for the Ana eventually but I'm still a n00b, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.

What's with the hate on the python these days, it's a great ship. Certainly my favourite.... I have 2..... Arguably the best ship in the game, but Error knows his way around one better than me. flying brick is a bit harsh though. There is no "best" ship in the game, as everyone has different styles/taste/requirements. I love the pythons because it has huge headroom for power, can shield tank, or hull tank. And can do anything you want it to.... Whilst not the fastest in a strait line, one can milk some respectably sharp turns from one if needs be. But again, one mans best friend is another's enemy. Perhaps a FDL or FAS if one prefers a Moreau agile ship?

How is shield tanking? Thought about doing it on a cargo, medium firepower build to basically tank til the feds show.

My Asps shields are low buy with 1200 hull integrity it's the same princible, survive and fight, but I wonder if shield tanking is a "safer" set up, with a better ship.

No, I don't have anywhere near enough money to begin to even c rate a python, let alone get A-thrusters. That's probably why I dislike it so much. Maybe I'll try it again when I have enough money to buy b/a rated equipment.

Yes, the Python is expensive to upgrade.
Going from E to A thrusters will make a difference.

The last thing I upgraded to A was the power plant.
An A rated powerplant costs almost as much as the Python itself.
It took me a long time to get the powerplant A rated.
I bought a C first. Costs a tenth of the A.

The Python is worth the effort.
It is useful in every role.
