Is it just me, or should all inhabited earth-likes have their own, individual name?

Should inhabited earth-likes have individual names?

I don't know what the statistic is in regards to how many populated earth-likes there are, but it strikes me as odd that something as major as an earth-like planet, inhabited by billions, doesn't have an individual name*- but has to make do with a letter next to the system name**.

*though some do

**The planets are given names in alphabetical order, depending on how close they are to the star.

Edit: When I say 'inhabited'- I'm rather specifically referring to earth-likes as found in civilised space, and populated by humans. Not each and every earth-like you might find while exploring.

for immersion purposes, when i'm flying into one like that, i'm thinking the official name intergalactically is NG-425-Ab or whatever, or "as its inhabitants call it, Hyperborea" or whatever name comes to mind.

I've named a few planets I'm often flying near, from past girlfriends' names and pet names etc. Now I'm on to aunties' names and then I'll start with flowers :D

seriously though, ideally devs should cover this.

well, earth only has a name because we're here to name it, if the earth like in question is in habited by non-sentient animals then they aren't going to have the intellect to name their world.

the inhabited ones probably should be given names if ppl have lived there long enough to name them.

perhaps its for simplicity sake, to avoid confusion with other named celestials.

I believe they'd have to be hand coded like the solar system as opposed to procedural generation for most everything else, so I don't think naming individual planets is a viable option unless of course you want to pay for a newly discovered planet to be renamed no different from ship skins I suppose so perhaps you should add it as a suggestion to the new features section.

Yes I think they should. There should be a flag on the procedural generator that pings PDev a message for these and then they can name them.

"Greetings HIP 57746 3 B-lings, we mean you no harm."
