Horizons Is it me or are there less players playing the game ?

Question is did you notice this to ?

I have been away for a couple of weeks after the last update disasters.
So yesterday i pick'ed up the controls again
First thing i noticed is the combat changed alot and graphics seem to be improved.
second thing i noticed is the CG the combat CG has a fraction of players playing it of what it used to be.
Even in the forum i see only 1 page of comments after 3 days of the CG.

So is it me or did ED reached theire goal ? And didn't players warn that this would happen ?

I must say honnestly i think i will put the controls down again i was in the game for the fighting and batle aspect and find after 1 night playing it has changed to much in the negative sense and the fun factor is gone.

Many of the folks in Colonia play in a Private Group. I was out there fighting in the CG a little bit yesterday but I work weekends ... I was exhausted. I'll be back that way in a couple of hours when I get home.

Nope.
Its True.
The Playerbase has dropped considerably,

http://steamcharts.com/app/359320

I guess Multi Crew Failing Big Time has taken quite a toll on it.
Lets hope 2.4 comes around fast and rises numbers again.

Please stop using concurrent players as player base. Not all players play at the same time which concurrent means.

As to the original post, according to steam spy the amount of people playing the game on steam has gone down in the last 2 weeks, but still at a healthy 75,000 players.

Obviously this does not include players not using steam like me. So the numbers will be pretty good. Not at it's best, but good.

Didn't take long for the infamous steam chart to show up!
Like many have said many times before. Not all of us use a steam key.

Steam chart is misleading. A lot of the hard-core Elite fans like myself never grabbed a steam key.

Steam is used enough to Qualify as an Representative Value.
And Concurrent Players are exactly whats asked here.

After all when Players Feel there is less People around they dont talk about how many People have the Game Installed.
they ask about how many People are Online in the World at the same time.

Which means Steam Charts is exactly the correct Measure here as it tells you how many People are actually on the Server at all times average.

You guys need to stop with the Rubbish of counting people as Active Players if they got the Game.
Active Players are only those actually in the Game.

And if the average amount of Players Online Drops. Thats an Surefire Indicator that Population has decreased.

Doesn't this doom-mongering appear every summer? OMG people are going on holiday, or just outside, during the summer months. Is this the end of computer gaming as we know it? :D

What are you even talking about?

Last Summer no serious fall of users occured.

It happens from time to time.
To be precise after each update we get a boost.
And then it starts plummeting over time.

Steam charts is 100% the wrong stat to use. It is concurrent players which is only useful for games that are PvP centric like overwatch.

It is average concurrent players. This is how misleading it can be :-

Let's say we have 5000 different players play each hour of the day. That is 120,000 different players a day, but with a peak and average concurrent players of 5000.

You see how that can be misleading.

Also I am not using installer base as a guide for player numbers. If you bothered to look up steam spy it will will tell you that it is over 1 million on steam alone. 75000 is the amount of different accounts that have started up the client which is a much better idea of the player base on steam. But that doesn't tell you everything. As a game like elite is mainly PvE you can get a lot of people that may only play every other week. We have no idea what the actual player base is there is no relevant data to tell us.

The best one is players that have actually played the game in the last 2 weeks.

But as stated that is steam stats only. There are a lot of players that do not use steam.

Mate no Offense.
But you dont Notice if you got 100k Players Playing 1 Hour or 50k Player Playing 2 Hours.
You only Notice if there is more or less People around while you Play.

Using an Statistic which tells you how many People have Played the last 2 Weeks is complete Rubbish and Completely Misleading.
Because People who logged in 2 minutes to see if an CG is interesting.
Or which log in once per week to do one mission are counted the same as the players who play 2-3 hours a day.
Which makes no sense because these Semi Inactive Player dont really affect the World at all.

I am not Interested in knowing how many Half Inactive People have checked the game in the last 2 weeks.
I want to know how many People I can expect to be Actively Playing the Game.

Steam Charts tells you an Ultimate Fact on how Active a Game is.
Because it tells you how many People you can Expect to See Online when Playing.

Elite Dangerous on MP is mostly Interactive by the Background Sim.
Which means that your Statistics of counting the People which logged in for 5 minutes in 2 weeks is completely useless because they add nothing to the game.

There we have it... So there are the "good" players and the "bad" ones?
(uncalled for)

Whats it got to do with Good and Bad Players ?
I have been a Player like that myself quite long.

And its a Fact that I dont really affect Game when I am not playing it and just log in now and then to check on whats going.
So why would that make me bad ?

its simply that if I find the Game boring I.ll play less. And maybe wait for improvements.

As stated it is only a useful stat for PvP centric games. Elite Dangerous isn't. It is predominantly PvE.

None of the stats are a fully representative of the player base, so it is completely useless speculating, because that is precisely what it is.

Also with the player limits per instance, as long as 16 people are playing it at once, you wont notice.

But when I loaded it up there seemed as many as usual. I'm pretty sure this thread is just a thinly veiled "hey that erasing of exploited modules thing has caused loads of people to quit" thread.

Wouldnt surprise me. Its more likely that the gank squads are not around at the moment as they now need to start rerolling new modules.

Its not.

Because the main Interaction and the main measure for Activity is the BGS.
Even for PvE other Players being there or not makes a difference.

But only if they are actually spending time in the Game.

The OP Asked based on his Feeling.
Which means he somehow noticed there is less People around.

So to him Steam Charts are way more useful than knowing who might have logged in for 2 seconds in the last 2 weeks.

And actually thats Incorrect.
Steam Charts is Incredible Representative for a Games Population.
Because it tells you just how much the Game is actually Played.

Its not 100% accurate because there is some People who play less and some who play more.
But its still the most accurate measure that exists for now.

It's not even close to being accurate. I bought my copy of Elite straight from Frontier so my copy doesn't register on Steam. I can't remember where I saw it but I think it's like 50% of PC users have bought ED this way. Also, Steam does not count XBox or Mac copies of the game so no using Steam is absolutely *not* an accurate measure of usage.

The best Steam can do is give an indication as to whether there's a rise or drop in PC players on Steam. From that we may be able to infer a rise or drop elsewhere but that's it.

On a personal usage note. I've been out enjoying the summer as much as I can and have spent 3 weeks away from ED. Now that it's gone all rainy, I've jumped straight back into it.
