Nay to easy mode - this game takes some learning ;-)
As for joystick necessity, it can be played quite competently with mouse/keyboard. I have a x52 on order, first joystick since BF2 (purely for planes), and that was my first since the good old Amiga with Frontier, Wings and Speedball 2 which killed far too many.
Anyway, long story short, using mouse and keyboard, mouse X & Y with roll & pitch, A & D as yaw, W & S as throttle, jobs a goodun.
No issues with it so far for me, though it's what I`m used to. Joystick will be a new learning experience but I`m interested to see if it's any better.
Stick with it - all good things come with time (and experience). If it were easy, everyone would be doing it ;-)
