If commanders don't need their ships and would like to be transported to the nearby station where they can continue with Apex, or they can take those dropships to participate in ground combat activities, then be returned to carrier via shuttle when done.
SLFs don't have a frame shift drive, so you'd have to make that trip in realspace at a max boost speed of 577m/s. You'll be out of fuel long before you reach the surface
