I love my Mamba. I love the look, I love the sound and I love pretty much everything about it. I've spent ARX on paintjobs and ship kits, but........ Does it have a place any more?

The FDL handles a lot better and has arguably better internals. The Mamba is faster and has slightly more firepower - or should I say had.

With the new salvation weapons, the FLD can handle 4 size 2 plasma chargers, whereas the Mamba is a "2+2". That works out at a 64.6dps deficit, or roughly 20%. So now, not only does the FDL have a handling advantage, but it now has a higher dps on top.

What to do, what to do?

Against thargoids neither Mamba nor FdL are meta.
And in PvP the Mamba always was a bit worse than a FdL, more of a hit and run attack ship.

They are different.

The Mamba has a far better cockpit and superior heat dissipation.
The weapons layout is for different roles.

I'd say it was always behind the FdL in the above mentioned roles, but it has others where it shines.

My thoughts are to fly the ships that feel right, and appeal to you on any or every level. Don't focus on numbers but feel.

Yeah, the FDL might be better, but do you like it better? That's the way to go about it in my view.

And beyond the hard numbers, there are many other softer factors that should be considered. Does it appeal more to your eye? What about cockpit visibility? Boost sound? Can you land it better?

It's like picking a guitar. This or that model might have a better rep, but you really know when you pick it up and strum a few chords. At this moment the name on the headstock or the price tag doesn't matter. All that does is how it feels to you. Go with that.

Apropos of nothing, I’d much rather have 1H2L2S than 1H4M. The Mamba gets 3 big boy weapons and a couple of utility hardpoints. The FDL gets one big boy weapon and then you have to figure out which of the mediums you’re sacrificing for utility vs damage.

Then again, I’d pick a Chieftain over either of the above.

OK. Well, I went to the pub to consider my options. Had a few beers, thought about it. Had a few more beers, thought about it some more. Had a few more beers - someone walked me home and then......... I took the Mamba out to a hazrez. Here's a tip....... When you spin left, don't go with the movement and fall off your chair. I fully expect it to hurt in the morning. As for ships........ what does FDL stand for again?

Mamba every day.

I feel a hangover coming on.

I like them both. They're fun to fly, and it's not like I pay a parking fee or yearly maintenance fees for having more ships... For haz res hunting, I tend to use the FDL simply because I only have to restock one gun with my current setups, so I can stay out longer than with the Mamba.

But I'll fly whatever ship appeals to me more on any given day.
