Is it ok for a commander to "spawn kill" ?

Hi guys !

So, I was taking off of Farseer Inc in the Deciat system, when a commander named CENSORED shot me down. It was over in a few seconds.
I just started the game, I pilot an ASP Explorer with few weapons, while this guy had one hell of a ship.
I don't have much credits, so it was very expensive to me to rebuy my ship...

I had no cargo, nothing of value. So I don't unterstand why he would shoot me down.

When I respawed at the station, I saw him attacking another commander that was taking off. He oppened fire as the other commander was leaving the pad.
I had to wait for him to leave so I can take off myself and flee this place.

Is it ok for commanders to do this ? Or is there some regulation againts it ?

Thank you.

Some people can’t play nice is all. You might want to edit the post and remove the offending CMDRs name. Apparently that’s forum griefing or something

Not going to defend the guy for what he does, but anything goes in Open.

It's also good to know that Deciat is a hot spot for this sort of behaviour as Farseer is the first engineer most new players head towards, so plenty of cannon fodder for seal clubbers to choose from. I appreciate that new players would not be aware of this so tend to learn this the hard way unfortunately.

There are other players that police the place (myself included sometimes, albeit poorly) so it's a decent source of emergent gameplay on both lawful/lawless sides of the player base. But it also depends on instancing - I usually am unlucky because I don't instance with these lawless players, or in your case you were unlucky that you did.

If you want to avoid this for the benefit of your credit balance, either try a different engineer, or switch to Solo until you have the ship/funds/experience available to escape or better even, push back.

Good luck and fly safe o7

Edit - another tip as you mentioned weapons on your Asp - don't even try to engage in combat with these guys, most fly meta builds that are way OP compared to many standard ships so focus should be evasion and escape. You'll eat a few rebuys but it can be quite satisfying to get better at this over time (as with anything really!)

Yep, legitimate gameplay. And it conforms with Mr Braben envisioned gameplay when he claimed he wanted a game free of teenager grievers.
He basically got that, but he also got a game full of old farts grievers :)

But, again - legitimate gameplay. But there is always is Solo.
Or if you insist at playing in Open, there is also the Block option.

The game allows it, in that sense it's okay.

Engineers bases are a popular hang-out for this kind of activity, but the modes allow you to enter & leave without encountering them if you prefer. Alternatively many issues like this can be solved simply by waiting for them to leave or be distracted :)

There's nothing to stop them doing it. Sometimes I will take my ship down to farseers and try to lure them away to give people a chance to launch. It creates some fun gameplay occasionally. If you don't want to wait for someone to help or for the ganker to get bored you can just change to solo.

If it's the FSD engineering you're after. Elvira Martuuk offers this as well in a much safer system if you're in open.

Yea, but she's also at the far end of the bubble.
Think she's the engineer i never visited after the unlock. I visited the Colonia engineers 3 times, Elvira only once :D

Edit: Scratch that. I was confusing her with Hera Tani and her Back Jet Hole

Yes, it's ok.

The game allows it. As for understanding "why he would shoot me down", that's a slippery slope...

I personally allow anyone to murder me in cold blood just once. Then I block them. In my reality, I survive and he's locked up in jail for many years for his act of terrorism. In his reality, I'm dead and gone, forever. I call this "Reverse Iron Man". Just like "spawn killing", this is controversial yet totally allowed and even promoted by the game. I actually find it very immersive and a great solution to what many consider a problem in Elite Dangerous :D

* Unless I'm in an Anarchy system, where murder is not only allowed but expected.

It's ok for players to have their CMDRs do this as they generally aren't breaking any rules of the game by doing so.

In-game it's illegal for CMDRs to do this in the Deciat jurisdiction and it's a really jerky thing for an in-game character to do, but law enforcement isn't up to the task of doing anything about it, so your protection is up to you and your CMDR.

In his reality, I'm dead and gone, forever.

Except for your BGS influence, which you cannot remove except by categoically refraining from having your CMDR conduct any transactions of any kind.

The "Think of the BGS!" argument is one of the biggest red herrings I've seen in this forum. As long as we have Solo, Private Group, and three different non-connected platforms, this isn't even an argument. Maybe you should start another "Open Only" thread :p

Anyway, it's a fair trade, as he's messing with my BGS just as much as I'm messing with his.

As we still have haunted houses and mansions, the 3305 people have haunted systems :D

This is what goes through my mind when I think of BGS ghosts:

I'm not an 'Open Only' advocate.

However, I don't think one should be able to retain any of the benefits of playing in Open while selectively opting out of Open encounters and quite likely disrupting instancing for others. The idea that your CMDR is dead to others just because he's unlikely to be instanced with them doesn't hold water.

And you might want to edit your quote to remove the Cmdr name as well ;)
