Community Event / Creation Is it "Pilot's Federation" or is it "Pilots Federation"? (I don't want to have to fix my creation)

Is it "Pilot's Federation" or is it "Pilots Federation"? (I don't want to have to fix my creation)

I've found "official" examples of both usages, so I'm not sure which is correct. Halp?!

Eg there is the Game Manual PDF which has apostrophe (Pilot's Federation)
... and there is in-game text which lacks apostrophe (Pilots Federation), etc.

To be most specific, I'm looking for how the Pilot's Federation themselves would spell their own name.

Does anyone know? And if so, how do you know?

Thanks!

I have often wondered the same thing.

The difference is whether it's possessive or plural.
Possessive: It is Fred's car ... the car is Fred's
Plural: The boys are in the car ... the car has boys in it

So it's either Pilot's Federation ... as in, they are Pilots and it's their Federation

Or it's a Federation of Pilots ... as in, it's a Federation of many many Pilots

I hope that helps.

Grammatically, I'd say it's "Pilots' Federation".

i.e., The Federation for (multiple) Pilots.

I suppose you could use "Pilot's Federation", but this would imply that it's a federation of one pilot...

"Pilots Federation" doesn't make sense.

Correct on all points. Pilot's Federation could also imply that a pilot IS federation. As in "The ship's imperial, the crew's alliance, but the pilot's federation. Wardoom banter can get a bit heated."

Pilots' would imply the possessive, so I would think that would be more like the Federation controlled/owned by Pilots. That may well be the case, but I suspect the Federation for Pilots need not actually be possessive, it could potentially be descriptive eg "the crayons box" is the box for crayons, but it is not possessed by the crayons. The crayons go in that box, so the box has been named after its contents. (The Pilot'?s'??! Federation does seem to be an organization which we pilots do not control or own, but which controls and regulates us.)

You have a good point that Pilots' makes more sense grammatically than Pilot's. Gah!

My takeaway is that it sounds like there just isn't a known canon answer for this.
FDev are eventually going to have to get that house in order :)
