Is it possible that cross-play with Xbox will be a thing at some point?

I don't have a PC and for a couple of days I've spent a lot of hours here in the forums to realise something.

I can't participate in a lot of things this awesome community does, because I am playing in Xbox One.

I know this was already cleared by FDev and they said it was not possible due to restrictions when updating the console version, but there has to be a way.

A few months ago, in the Xbox Preview Dashboard, there was a question about testing updates of games before they were released.

I think FDev should really do something about this and try to make some agreement with Microsoft to get this working, a community that is split in two (and soon three) parts is not a good idea, there's a great community doing great things and I can't take part because FDev took the easy way and said that they didn't wan to "delay" PC updates because of consoles, instead of looking for a way to not having to delay those updates, and it has to be possible.

If there's a discussion about this and I've not seen it, please, link it to me.

Actually...they have never said that it's completely off the table. They've just said that it's hard to make work due to a number of different reason and that they are looking into it. Based on what they've said it's clearly leaning towards "not gonna happen" though. At least not for the foreseeable future.

The last official word on it is from Braben's twitch stream at E3 when he said they're still trying to do it and aren't ruling it out.

I personally hope there is crossplay to increase the player base rather than putting in another set of players influencing the galaxy behind an invisible wall.

It's up to Microsoft.
Then I may start a campaign to flood Phill Spencer media to get this done. But I really think it is FDev who have to make it work, dealing with Microsoft (I assume that Phill Spencer would never deny them the chance to get this working)

The possibility of playing alongside with the PC community is one of the things I was hyped for.

Then I hope it works, this game doesn't have many things to do without a proper community

The terms of agreement are fixed by Microsoft only and Frontier being the small one can take it or leave it. I don't know if this is still actual but:

TLDR it costs a company 40k to patch a game; seems Microsoft dropped this but you can't patch console games as often as on pc and with the same costs. Because of this most of the time the universe for PC/MAC will not be the same as on XBOX.

No, that's not actual now.

The rest of your comment is my point, I can't see a guy like Phil Spencer not trying to get this done as much as FDev.

I'm 100% that they can make a deal to get updates in Xbox passed as betas for preview members (damn, that's what I signed in for) being in fact the actual updates coming the same times as the PC updates
