I have seen images where cmdr's are using lasers while taking pictures with external camera. I just don't get it working. I have weapons deployed but nothing happens when I press fire button. I have assigned fire button also to free camera controls. Can that be the issue? I just don't want to fiddle with those settings before I am sure it's possible.
Is it possible to fire your weapon when you are in external camera?

Presumably you need to press the key for 'control ship while in external camera' - like when you fly in ext.cam. mode
I have that enabled. I can fly my ship but I just can't shoot my weapons.

Do you have fire button assigned to free camera controls at all?
Got it working. I had to unassign fire button from camera controls.
