Newcomer / Intro Is it possible to mine in peace?

Trying my hand at mining. Every single asteroid belt and RES site I visit - every time - there is at least 2 pirates up my butt, even if I kill one another immediately jumps in. I actually find myself bounty hunting more than mining. As soon as 1T of anything in my cargo I have to jump out of the site or fight to keep it.

Can a person mine in peace?

Yes you can if you go to a planet that have rings around and then line up in SC to the rings and slowly approch the rings until you drop into normal flight it should by possible to mine without interferrence from others... I have done a few times my self and didn't meet anyone not even NPC pirates...

So give it a try and good luck with it Cmdr... :)

Although I don't mine, I do drop into a planetary ring every now and then for a spot of bounty hunting as the pirates do tend to spawn one after the other. But I can imagine this can become quite frustrating when mining as there is barely any respite between Killing one and the next one spawning.

Have you tried targeting the Drives or the Weapons of a NPC pirate and taking them out. They should either just float harmlessly nearby or be unable to fire. Then perhaps, the next one won't spawn in straight away? Wait till at least a cobra shows up though, as sidys tend to pop before their subsystems do!

Edit: Or the advice above which seems much less labour intensive, ;)

Fly toward the resource extraction spots (if it's a ringed planet) then SC to a spot away from the RE spots. Your safety system will drop you into normal space and if you're far from the RE spots you won't spawn pirates.

I'm sure the OP is a law abiding citizen, however, it's worth noting that while NPC Pirates don't spawn in such locations, Law Enforcement ships do - as do other ships (usually mining) that may be wanted.

Scoob.

As some of the guys above have already said, don't mine near RE, but find a nice quiet spot and drop out of SC, keep the system star behind you so you can see what's what and for orientation, head towards the planet. You could also try shutting down non-essential systems to lower your signature.

What is RE ?

Good points, and true. Sometimes, you'll see three or four extraction sites around a ring. I pick a spot in-between two of extraction sites, slow down, approach the ring plane, and at minimum speed, it'll drop you out of SC when you enter the rings.

You'll rarely see another ship.

Try an asteroid cluster close to a sun. Rather than a resource extraction point in a planetary ring. Your pirate bother is gone

Don't go to extration sites, go for a belt cluster. chances are that you're alone.
And there seems to be a somewhat logic in respawning of prates, one attacked me, i fought back, he escaped.
After he jumped away, no new pirates spawned for the whole time i was in that instance.
Everytime i killed one, another one spawned.
So let them escape, and you'll have your time.
