IS IT POSSIBLE....

Is it possible that Frontier can change the way we FSD to a system...

Simply put can we select a planet and jump (FSD) straight to it instead of to the systems star. I'm pretty sure this has never been brought up before and I have no idea how easy or difficult this would be for frontier to deliver.

However saving of flying time to each destinations planet would cut down on long haul internal flights etc, and im sure would be of use,or maybe a particular engineered FSD for those players who would find this useful, thus giving all players the option to include this or not, so on a sense balance is right there for all.

This and various other methods to trivialise distance have been suggested many, many times. It doesn't work with lore (your FSD needs to lock onto the most massive object in the system) and it doesn't work with the intended gameplay.

Is there any lore on what a "system" is? I know, I know, the idea of a star system is fairly well established. But Alpha and Proxima Centauri are considered the same system, giving the player a 0.22 ly super cruise trek, whereas there are systems in the Galaxy only 0.18 ly apart.

In real life we don't know if Proxima Centauri is even gravitationally bound to Alpha Centauri, and consider it the same 'system' by convention. But even if it is gravitationally bound, is that even relevant to Elite lore?

Rather than trying to shortcut more and more to get instant travel, why not argue how we can further enhance the points in between so it's not looked at as a time waster or tedious filler? I don't necessarily disagree that some improvements in speed shouldn't be done, such as lifting the SC speed limit, giving mini-jump capabilities in very large systems, and even allowing some variation in SC speeds instead of everyone the same. But a jump from one planet to another takes a huge chunk out of the game's core purpose, flying a space ship, and eliminates the potential of interactions between those points, potential that hasn't really been fully explored yet.

As Gunnet says ... but perhaps some day in E D they will discover or create JUMP GATES. But even then I doubt every planet or station would have them.

I don't disagree with the logic of jumping from star to star and using supercruise to travel within the system. However, the wait time jumping out of supercruise has me baffled. Not only is it a time killer, but the time varies, and imo, takes away from the fluidness of gameplay. I vote for ELIMINATING these wait times.....please.

The time for a drop out of supercruise isn't there to make you wait, it's a loading screen, just like hyperspace is. It varies because different instances have different objects and other things to set up, and depending on your system, networking, etc., that will affect it. Sure, ideally it should be an instant transition, but so long as the game has to be broken into "rooms" this will occur to some degree. An empty space drop is pretty quick, so what you're discussing isn't a matter of eliminating unneeded travel time but more optimizing loading processes to get rid of the pause.

1) Its been brought up all the time
2) It would kill piracy and any danger to trading and such.

It has been said on many occasions by the team that jump gates will never happen.

This! Rep+
The pirates at the Prism CG were only successfull in robbing my Cutter just because of the destination. If i wasn't already near the station, i would have chosen to high wake before they can rob me.
Sry but this is a sort of gameplay that is already now not often in the game. Don't let us destroy the last little bit of it. Long in-system travels are good and nobody HAS to do them. It's not like there is an engineer at hutton orbital that gives you the god-mod (e) :D

The way I understand it (and I could easily be wrong) is that the FSD somehow 'inverts' gravity, so that it pushes rather then pulls. When an interstellar jump is triggered the FSD aims for the heaviest object in the destination system to act as a crash mat to allow the jump to finish (otherwise a jump could continue for eternity).
