The vertical side lines are there to show relative speed that you're moving at - is that what you mean? Either side of the hud.

It just gives the impression of travel and speed, mainly, which is my guess.
I found that if you wrap up the middle of your monitor with some duct tape, you no longer see these lines.
I do mean horizontally though, only some kind of idiot would wrap duct tape vertically around their monitor! Just thought I should be clear, so you don't blame me if it goes wrong.

This seems like bad advice, and will be very painful for your monitor when you rip it off.
Just use tippex every time you see a line.
Just stick a condom over your monitor. Might be a stretch, but at least you'll fly safe, commander. O7.

Well, that depends what size you have lying around at home. I doubt I'd have to stretch mine to fit around the monitor...
