Engineers Is it really so that you can find materials only by checking other cmdr's best locations?

I first checked what other cmdr's say about praseodymium. I was at farseer inc and when I checked the best places they were quite far away. I then checked closest pristine rings from galaxy map by checking the palladium routes. I found one system just one jump away that had 3 pristine ring planets. One looked really promising, high metal content with rings. When I started mining my second asteroid gave me 7 tons of praseodymium. I had a winner feeling cause I didn't have to travel that long distance to a place that other cmdr' had recommended. The other two gas giant rings did not give a single ton of that material. So is the material hunt so random as others say or is there a pattern to be found? Like planets that meet certain composition, temperature etc criteria. Not just one composition criteria but a combo of two or more? Or was I just so lucky just this time?

Have you noticed that are refinery and extraction systems more likely to give you mining materials as reward? And high tech systems some high tech related? Or is this mission reward system totally random?

The materials that you mine are not as much trouble to find. It is the materials you find on planets that are the problem.

So there's no more info about the materials in game? Like all the commodities market stuff has some kind of info that helps finding the right station for that commodity. Elite should have info table for all the new micro materials. Let's say ytrium. Game should say that it's material that can be found from high metal content planet when the planet's temperature is x and some other planet variable is y. This would give clear options for players to start the search. What I like about elite is that I can search stuff from galaxy map when I know what I am looking for. I don't like to search internet and go to the same places everyone else goes or then you go empty handed. It's a shame that game this large forces the players go in to same places if they don't want to search aimlessly.
