Is it safe to leave the game when not docked in a hangar?

I usually land and park in a hangar before saving the game and logging off. If I am in the middle of space or something and save and leave the game, what will happen to my ship? Will it still be there where I left it when I return? I assume it will just sit there for a while until someone comes along and destroys it, but I really am not sure. Thanks

You can exit at any time and nothing will happen to your ship. If you are in combat, there is 15 sec timer for this.

Because he game uses P2P instancing, your ship is hosted on your PC, which means that when you shut off ED, your ship doesn't exist anymore.

So, in short, yes, you are safe :)

How do you think explorers do it? I'm 8000 light years from human space and there is no way to fly back just to save and quit! ;)

5 days ago I logout in a RES asteroid belt, my ship blewup instantly after I logged back 1 minute after. ( I had 100% hull and 100% shield up when I exited game).

So safe that some people in slow ships took to quitting to menu after leaving the landing pad, then rejoining. (it starts you outside the station, so you don't need to worry about exiting and getting out of mass lock)

This happened to a friend of mine. It is a known bug which Frontier are aware of so be careful logging out at a RES.

You can log out anywhere in ED but the Galaxy carries on without you. Stations continue in their orbit, asteroids continue to rotate.

Log off too close (or in) a station or too close to 'roids and you may find yourself blowing up when logging in.

Basically use common sense, it isn't (for example) difficult to fly out of an RES to log off (or enter SC).

I am 7KLy from the nearest hangar, so just leave it hanging in space when I log off. Just make sure you are clear of obstacles before you log off.

However, planets seem to stop rotating when you logoff. I have a habit to park my Asp in the orbit of the last planet scanned, and I am always seeing the same details on the surface when I come back next day.

Explorers dont sleep till they get back... They breed us tough

I make sure i am well away from anything when i log off, just in case. And slow to zero... Probably being over cautious but thats just me

Perhaps but that doesn't present any risk to where you log on or off (at least until we get planetary landings anyway) :)

Ok cool. All this time I was playing it safe for nothing. So if someone logs out in front of you, they just disappear?
