Is it smart to try and get an Imperial Clipper? (Hauler problems)

Hi folks,

I'm trading my way up to a few gazillion credits.
I have a Lakon 6 now, 104 tons cargo and still sporting a shield.
I have a trade route that gives me ~1000 creds per ton profit from A to B and 900 creds profit from B to A.
I have collected around 7 million creds, wanted to buy the ASP thinking it had 192 tons cargo. But I used old info, as it turns out the ASP now has 96 tons cargo (if I wanna keep my shield)

So here is my 'problem'.
The Imperial Clipper is not impossible for me to get I think. 2 weeks of hauling and I might get it.
But.... when I tried to buy one I noticed something like 'needs good standing with Empire' (something similar, I'm at work now so I can't check :p)

What do you guys think?
Try to go to Empire Space and get good standing there?
How do I get good standing anyway? I only been playing for 2 weeks and so far the only faction I have (Federation) went down the drain after my smuggling escapades :p

Or would it be smarter to skip the Clipper and go for the Anaconda?

Or smarter to wait till december 16th and see if there is a new spaceship that fits between the Lakon 6 and the Anaconda?
I mean.. it's a biiiggg looong step between the 1 million credit 104 ton Lakon 6 and the 292 ton 57 million Anaconda... There must be some step between them when the game comes out officially... right?

Or should I wait till 16th and see if there is a character wipe?

Aarrrgg decisions decisions !
What would you do?

Hey

There will be no wipe on the 16th, so you have what you have.
The answer to your question lies in your playstyle. Are you an empire fan or not? What are your overall goals.

My plan is to get cash by trading, then build a 'war'ship and start fighting for the Empire.

So yes I'm an empire fan.
Back in Frontier I think I reached the status of 'Duke' or 'Baron', can't remember... with a lot of combat missions. Nuking enemy bases on planets :p
Thats something I wanna do in the long run.

But for that I need cash.
So for now I focus on getting a lot of credits to fool around.

The Clipper seems to be a good step between Anaconda and Lakon 6.
The step from Lakon 6 to Anaconda is huuuuge I think.
50 million credits between them. 100k per trip. Thats 500 trips. One trip is ~10 minutes so thats 5000 minutes so thats 85 hours of pure hauling.
I prolly won't survive that :p

So the Clipper seems like a necessity... but how long would it take to get a good enough standing witht he Emipre to be allowed to buy that Clipper?

I dont know why you would get a clipper.
Well its not bad, but not very good either and seeing at how much upgrades you need to have to make it good its gonna be a pain for you.

Go for the ASP and trade rare items :)

Well I'm rather new to the game.

I can make around 600k per hour now using the Lakon6.
Would the ASP do better?

If I had the Clipper I would get ~1.000.000 creds per hour.
Thats why i want the Clipper :p

you are forgetting the lakon type 9 it sits at 76 mill and 400 cargo space.

im pretty sure the anaconda is around 150mill so the python at 56 mill migth be an upgrade only issues it uses the same class FSD drive as the asp so it can't jump that far but it does have better cargo space than lakon 6

im now personally in the lakon type 6 so i think ill just grind away for the 16th and wait for the empire ranks to be put in to the game and get myself a clipper

Have a look into trading rare commodities, you can make a lot more than 600k an hour doing that in a Type 6; you're talking more like 6-10 million an hour (depending on how focused you are) once you've got the routes worked out.

.....

If this is true then I REALLY got some work to do !
Thnx for the tips folks :)

I must say I really like this community so far.
I come from World fo Tanks and.. well... lots of poison there.

Again: thank you all for the tips so far !

I used an Asp without a shield and traded rare stuff at 2 million every 15 minutes. I now have a type-9 and not sure why yet. But I still have my Asp and tempted to use it as a very capable explorer. Or perhaps use it to get an Anaconda. Hmm. Don't know

Despite the name, Imperial Clipper is actually better as a combat/pirate vessel than a trade vessel - mainly because of the fact that it has 2 large size weapon mounts and decent speed and maneuverability.

How do you earn THAT much on trading? I have a Lakon 6 with 112 cargo, and I have yet to find anything over 100.000CR per run
