Is it time for black holes to be dangerous.

I feel like its been this way so long every one kinda just gets on with it.

We used to be able to just fly right thrugh them, then we would hit an exclusion zone, and then we also got very hot.

But i mean its a black hole.. the moste dangerous thing in the universe. And we just fly past them and take pictures. Neutron stars are more dangerous and thats just odd.

I want to feel like i might die walst scanning one, i want be spaghettified and sucked into the gravity well and have to fight for dear life to escape if im lucky. I should at least get sweaty palms when i am aproaching one!

All in good time i hope.

Agreed.

The current implementation of black holes disgusts me. They should’ve been overhauled when neutron stars got re-designed. As usual, lazy FDev is lazy.

I'm not sure that there's any reason for black holes to be all that dangerous in Elite, as long as we approach them in Supercruise. There would be nothing special about the event horizon when we're in a ship capable of faster than light travel,. Furthermore the Elite universe is not relativistic, so we wouldn't have to worry about time dilation or length compaction as we do in our universe.

In normal space there would be serious tidal forces, but not until you get quite close. I don't think that we can assume that tidal forces would affect the ship while in the supercruise bubble but of course we can't really say either way on that front. Certainly apparent acceleration isn't relevant while in supercruise, so I'd lean towards saying that tidal effects would be irrelevant to a supercruising ship.

Black holes with accretion discs would probably be dangerous, but then again our ships can fly through the corona of most stars without any real danger so I'm not certain that this would be a given either.

I agree that there should be more dangers while flying around, but I think that we would get much more out of going full space-fantasy and build up some completely new things we've never seen before for supercruising ships to deal with. Choppy gravitational waves caused by extra-dimensional matter or Hyper-spatial life forms that don't like little spaceships flying around them.

+1 and please render them so they look intimidating and actually huge:

But regular stellar mass black holes, which are pretty much all the black holes in Elite: Dangerous - barring, Sag A*, and the Great Annihilator - aren't huge. They're pretty small - comparable to neutron stars.
That's a pic of Gargantua, which is a super massive black hole. Which is indeed huge.

I do completely agree that black holes should get a bit of a make-over though. Let's see some accretion discs and cannibalizing of close orbiting binary's. Same for neutron stars and white dwarfs.
:)

You mean dangerous again ?

But yeah, I hope the changes they plan on adding during Q4 will change that !

Um, does anyone else not see this as one of the obvious things that will be done in the Q4 exploration update?

Just saying I've seen a similar thread recently and somehow am confused. Maybe it needs saying so FDev take note but as above I personally see it as the elephant in the room...

This would require to fix the broken gravity mechanic.
On an atmosphereless planet with 1g gravity, if i deactivate FA my ship should fall down with 10 m/s (9.81 m/s on earth) and not faster!! Yet the ship keeps speeding up towards the ground way above 50m/s and more depending on mass of the ship which makes absolutely no sense!
This is not the way gravity works!

So if Black Holes should get a real meaning, than please only with realistic working gravity.

Nevermind, i really shouldn't wright anything if i'm no longer able to think. Maybe it's time for bed for me :|
