Newcomer / Intro Is it true?

I have got conflicting reports about the DSS. If I have used it on a system planet then does it mean I can replace the DSS with say an autodock or will it only reveal hotspots if fitted? I will be hanging around the planet mining for a while and so an autodock would be useful and I can store the DSS at my carrier for when needed. I have found posts stating that I need it and then some saying I dont need it.

Makes sense that you do even if it is 'inconvenient'

What ship you mining in? I used an Asp X - sure I kept a DC on it, I usually do as it annoys some people at stations for no reason, I was ready to go back to station to swop refinery or something for fuel scoop though to sell so maybe swop something else?

i Am NOT an expert, and depends on tonnage required, shields/no shields/how many limpets wanted.

Any of the slots bar the bottom 3 are interchangeable or can add/lose the 1A LC for SCA, but Id be looking at something like this and swopping the 5A LC for a Fuel Scoop if needed to sell. If docking at FC no issue there.

Edit: 1A LC should be 3A

I'd give a +1 to Hawknerds suggestion of a Python mining ship when you have the funds to upgrade.

I started my mining career in a Keelback, then bought an Asp X which I used as a mining ship until I was able to refit it as my first exploration vessel. After that I used a Krait II for quite a while and finally, after getting some advice from the old hands on the forum, a Python. I've enjoyed mining in all of them.

I've also bought an Anaconda, which will eventually replace my current Krait Phantom explorer, in the meantime it too is fitted out for mining. Despite it's size, it's still reasonably nimble when mining Planetary Rings, although you do have a more limited view from the cockpit.
