I'd say to give it a go.
The whole experience now feels a lot more alive for me, but if you were very Elited-out, three months might not be enough, however 2.1 is a reasonably significant update on many fronts.
The improvement in planet-side frame rates has been very significant for my GTX 770 - up from 25-30 FPS to around 60 - yes 60 - and this has made a terrific improvement to how this part of the game feels now. The mission interface is much more involving, and the branching missions a nice twist albeit not such a massive change. Station traffic seems to have been imrpoved, in that busy stations feel genuinely busy, and quiet outposts are like the grave. The addition of announcements has really pepped up the experience too, and with the AI sometimes being a bit of a handful, each trip now comes with a sense of foreboding that has been missing in ED so far.
Engineers I've not really tried yet, but (perhaps atypically) I like the fact that they work as long-term aspirations to slowly work through 'in the background'.
So, whilst 2.1 isn't a game changer, it is well worth a few hours to check it out.
Edit: I've been in since premium beta too, so understand the necessity for a routine break from the game, and I don't play nearly as much as I used to. To put that in to context, in the mean time Fallout 4 has come and gone as far as I'm concerned.
