is it worth employing an npc crew member as explorer?

im in deep space exploring. i have an asp explorer. the blurb on the knee panel used to say it was often commanders choice for their first multicrewed ship. so if i have room for a crew member, what would they do for me? right now i dont see any point. it just seems an npc i would have to pay, would just be a trash can for credits i may want to throw away.

You can't fit a flight hanger on the asp so you can't hire an npc atm.

i like npc crew members, when flying an explorer that can equip a fighter. beside having someone to talk to yu out in the black, i also think, some of the orders ("flying formation") are only available with crew.

as for credity - you can always fire the npc crew before cashing in exploration data, if you are that guy ;-) ... I never do.

There's nothing stoping you hiring an NPC, in any ship, it's just that at the moment without a hanger they will do nothing, except take their cut of profits. The only reason would be if you are RPing having a crew.
