Ships Is it worth replacing Anaconda for Federal Corvette?

I used the Anaconda for short range pirate killing missions for nearly 5 months now, and I have no idea if it's worth buying the F.C.

The Corvette has better potential shields via SCBs as the C7 and C8 got a huge boost. It is also has noticeably better maneuverability. It also has a good deal better stock shields and top tier weapon placements, and can ram.
However, the Conda is a much better hybrid ship (bi-weave shields) because it has much stronger hull (with HRPs in both ships). Also the Conda has a great deal more DPS potential vs smaller ships, and more DPS potential vs. the larger ones. The Conda is a better overall ship as the jump rage on the Corvette is horrible. It took me 4 jumps to go 13.7 ly in the Corvette for example.

If you hate hybrid builds and only plan on using it for short range large ship combat, go with the Corvette. Otherwise go with the Conda, as its the better overall combat/explorer/etc. ship.

Amazing description, and very useful! Thank you. It does sound like the Anaconda is the better ship to go with, because I find a lot more smaller pirate ships than big ships like another Anaconda.

Conda is free to buy, corvette has insane grindiness in ranks....

I'm 2% away from ranking to Rear Admiral. I will be ranking with the Empire after this to buy the Imperial Cutter.

compared to the anaconda it has less armour, less firepower, less jump range, and worse hardpoint placement (except for the huge ones)... manoeuvrability is better, but not by much. the only reason to buy this ship is for the novelty value & I wouldn't recommend it to anyone

I find the C1s are much better placed, and the C2s aren't that different. Also dual C4 PAs will PP take out large ships much faster, if you can make them hit (I usually can't)

"dual C4 PAs will PP take out large ships much faster" - no, they won't: the additional huge plasma only does about 25% more damage than a large & for that somewhat dubious privilege you lose a large hardpoint

the smalls are fine but the mediums are i think spaced slightly further apart from on the anaconda

Just to correct this one, for the addition of another HHP you lose two LHP's

Short answer: No.
Conda: exploration range, trade ability, affordable, great in combat.
FC: cruddy range, great trade potential, stupidly expensive, great in combat.
Conda all the way. She's a ship I won't be swapping for a corvette, despite being able to afford it.

Its all really about what you want to do, and how you prefer to fly.. If you like to fly lazily and laser vomit pirates to death, then go the anaconda.. If you want something that is going to test your skills, especially with the PA's but deliver a seriously powerful punch, then go the corvette.

Check out my review of the corvette if you like, and you can see it in action. Later in the video, I compare it to the anaconda in regards to armour, shields and other info.

Good informative vid.
Fact remains it's a huge ship with great combat ability with the range of a sidewinder.
So always and forever no. I'll stick with my amazingly versatile amazingly ranged Anaconda.

I was talking about their ease of PP sniping, and I do find it faster in a Corvette. I no longer care about the Corvette being comparable to the Cutter, that is a lost cause, but the Corvette really needs to ditch the dual C1s for C2s. It's supposed to be a combat version of the Anaconda and its soundly worse most of the time (though I find ramming with that ship a huge ammo saver in PvE).

Tough one. I admit, I have a real marmite thing going on with my Conda, I specced it out for the Gunfight at the OK Kausalya and now .. I am on the impressed side for the moment.

For a start, a Conda can be set-up to run cool quite cheaply (this is in Conda-nomics) so drawing on an A6 SCB doesn't need a heatsink but don't fire your guns doing it. I can also stack it full of SBs and HRMs to tank it up. Lastly with a middling set up, on three weapon pips it will run continuously with all weapons at full chat.

It's all about the DPS, the Conda has large and huge placements top and bottom. I place two turret cannons on top and two turret bursts on the bottom, these are Class 3 boom-booms and they hurt. Sixteen rounds from the cannons will take a PvE Conda out. There are Class 2 side placements and even the Class 1 tiddlers on the rear can hurt. A Conda can lay down lots of fire from all angles. The 'vette has nothing at its rear and only one mount on its belly.

The 'vette has the big guns and this is the kicker, if the pilot can land two huge fixed PAs on their target....

The downside is, if you put C4s in the C4 slots, you have less effective firepower than a Python. Its so bad I even use a beam weapon on the bottom C3. Against medium ships you get a C3 and two C2s operating at full effectiveness on hulls, and dual C1s reducing your DPE by 33% . And unlike faster/more agile ships you can't even get in close to use the weapons well. So if you are going to a CZ you have to ditch at least one C4 for a C3. I do both because I hate asymmetry. Kentic weapons on the C1s are useless, so till we get C3 multi cannons I run 3 C3 G pulse, 2 C2 multi-cannons, and two C1 G pulse. That's way to many thermal weapons for my liking and still much worse DPS than a Conda. And vs large ships' hull I turn off my C1s because they drain to much energy for no gain. Because of that, I have exactly the same fire power as the Python but with much more risk and less agility. Compared to the Conda, the Corvette is just a big ship killer for those with great aim.

The only advantage you would get is 15% more agility, more internals and more shields, you would loose everything else especially jump range, the jump range OMG... 12 Ly fully equiped, i would suffocate after 10 minutes inside it.

It's a great alternative for a "very short range heavy fighter", except that just keep your Anac.

I don´t know. Many say is better, other say is worse.
I think that for what the ship does and does not, the price, rank grind and outfitting cost does not match up. I do not feel like I would be getting my Credits worth for the investment.
Anyhow, its up to you, honestly, I do think that in time I would love to get one and try it; but it would be the last of the last of my priorities in this game. The Anaconda does the same and more, cost less and has no rank grind.
If money and rank is no object of concern to you, go ahead.

I'm a Asp/Python guy. As soon as I saw the Corvette, and you had to be Rear Admiral to buy it (along with pallets of credits), I did the grind. I have the Corvette.

Because: Reasons.

It's a video game. In a game where achieving goals IS A GRIND, it's nice to have goals. Although in Beta I did try the Anaconda and it's not the horrible pig I thought it was going to be. So, that will be my next buy :)

Have had my anaconda for three months now and love it a very versatile ship. i also own a fer de lance but i spend a lot more time in my conda. the corvette looks cool but that jump range is horrible the current range in my conda is over 20ly. it also great in combat/trading/exploring and deploying the srv. she is a great ship and very capable so ill be sticking with her for a long while.

take care commanders and rock on!!!!
