Is JWE Planet Safari?

Hi!

Very excited for JWE, can't wait for the new update [woah]. I am a bit confused, the name planet safari was trademarked in april. Is JWE Planet safari? Was it just to make sure other companies would not take the name planet safari? Was/Is it a expansion pack to planet coaster? Was it supposed to be the succesor to zoo tycoon (not zoo tycoon 2013) and cancelled after JWE was picked up?

I am hyped about JWE but would be truly thrilled about a real zoo simulator game (the type that Blue Fang made).

So far I've heard about two possibilities: JWE is just a teaser for a franchise Planet Safari, which would make sense as Frontier said that it was going to launch a new franchise. I don't think JWE could be made into a franchise, although the game would be really nice, I cannot imagine what kind of expansion packs could be made. Planet safari could be made into a franchise, marine animals, jungle, polar etc. In this scenario, a succesful JWE would mean the start of planet safari :)

The other possibility is that planet safari was planned, then when the possibility for JWE came around, planet safari was abandoned in favour of JWE. Two games in a niche from the same developer would be too much (not in my opinion :D) which is why Frontier picked one and left the other.

Probably not going to get an answer from Frontier :p confidentiality obligation and all, but I would like to hear about the opinions of other gamers.

We don't know anything about Planet Safari other than the name was registered as a trademark by Frontier in August 2015, so quite some time before april of this year!

Yes, the trademark registration started in august 2015, but it only got accepted in april 2017. This leads me to believe that the idea for planet safari started before august 2015 but continued even after they knew they got the rights to make JWE (as this was made public in february of this year).
I don't know how trademarks work, but if information had to be added between february 2017 and april 2017, this means that they are still putting effort in it, which is a positive sign.
If no additional information was needed after august 2015, then I wonder why it took 1.5 years to complete the application :S
But maybe this is just wishful thinking.

I'd hope "planet safari" or safari planets show up in ED for the "big game hunting" or xeno-zoological research safaris. Tumbling through the grasslands and jungle shrub in the camo-painted SRV's.. :)

I think Planet is the franchise, coaster and potentially Safari, splash, are games that are part of that franchise.

I suspect we will see a paid expansion of planet coaster announce at Frontier expo October 7 and that is likely to be something like splash or safari.

That does sound like a reasonable explanation, it does not happen often that an expansion skips part of the main base game's name but it certainly is possible.

Why do you think that we will see a paid expansion on October 7th? Is Frontier big enough to work on multiple games (within the same niche that is)? Don't get me wrong, expansions of planet coaster would be awesome but two announcements of reasonably large game(expansions) within 1.5 month? Maxis of Sims was really quick with expansion packs but I feel that that is partially because the layout was already there. There is not a lot of extra work involved with an extra type of cabinet or a new color of clothes. Frontier's layout of animals/swimming pool's are at least 10 years old and I doubt they are usable for planet coaster.

If you are right about a paid expansion being announced on October 7th, I think this is a great sign about how Frontier is doing.

Because Frontier have already done a tonne of free updates for Planet Coaster and it was sold a fairly cheap price and they said paid expansions were coming. Plus they need something to sale at Christmas and I don't think that will be a paid elite dangerous expansion.

Jurassic park shouldn't be all that complicated for Frontier to put together, with most of the tech well done for PC. They only need the dino creation part of the game and dino assets and a pack of buildings that tie into Jarassic park world 2 and other assets.

I expect we will find out what Elite Dangerous 3rd expansion is but then told it come out until next year possibly Easter but I wouldn't be surprise if it later.

This way the company will have income coming in all year round almost, which is probably one of there goals on top of releasing one new game year or two.

I really hope frontier will consider a zoo game with the capabilities as planet coaster. The way you can shape the landscape would make the best exhibits in the history of zoo simulation games. It would seem everything from planet coaster would work minus the rides and amusement park building sets. Don't get me wrong I think zoo tycoon is great and planet coaster is definetly one of the best games ever but we desperately need a zoo sim like planet coaster it would be a cash cow in terms of dlc.
