Is mining giving a disproportionate amount of influence?

I decided to settle in a little system for a couple of weeks and have been slowly working on the influence of a minor faction. It's a small system, there isn't much to do, it has 2 stations... Nothing really exciting. Up until the last update, i could see the influence of the minor faction rising 0.2-0.3% a day depending on how many missions I did, but with the last update, it lost 3% in two days and the controlling faction is back to almost 50% (from 34%). I have almost no doubts this is miners selling their loads at the main station, because there is absolutely nothing else to do there. How is that fair that mining takes over everything in the game including playing the background simulation?

Because it was offering the best prices for mining mats (like, x5 compared to the surrounding systems) in a 30LY raduis? Because there's nothing else to do, no faction granting permits, no hazardous RES sites? Because I've only seen someone else in the system once? Because when I left to explore for a week some time ago and got back there, the influences barely changed? Because it's currently independent and the offerings at the shipyard suck?

It really is a boring little system, that's why I chose it in the first place.

What system? Is there Powerplay influence? What do the economic/secuirity sliders indicate (get screenshots of the slider activity arrows). Is there any traffic in last 24h on local galnet? How many factions in the system?

Your story theory already conflicts; you've said it's miners, but say you haven't seen anyone, so i guess you haven't checked traffic reports to see the type and nature of traffic.

Thing is, even if it is miners, if its just two stations, it's a small population system; just a single player could cause that level of disruption with any other activity, even without mining.

Are there any faction states? Outbreak is a classic one that attracts mission traffic from every system within 15ly, usually pretty lucrative, and even if that isn't the case, the outbreak + investment + civil liberty wombocombo can offer fantastic prices on medicines.

Name the system (gimme a PM if you don't want it in public) and I'll take a peek on the history in Inara. The other thing is that I've noticed a general increase in traffic across the board since around christmas - new patch dropping and college people are on break so more people are playing, especially if you're in striking range of a hotspot.

I think mining has been causing me a lot of grief recently (for about a month):
Tiny System (<10k), no large platforms, but decent prices for mining.
Nothing interesting on bounties and crime
Galaxy Trade Routes show no human created lines.
Controlling Faction was consistently in Investment on Max Eco. Security would go down a bit if I put in some naughty effort, and creep back up slowly.

Been fighting inf in my Python and getting nowhere. Daily I would do 8 visits, with about 2-3x Inf++++ missions and -ve trade or smuggled goods each visit.
Traffic is as I would expect for the region (about 25 visits) with most being Large or Combat ships, except for a Hauler - Hauler x 8 or Hauler x 12 was normal.
Controlling faction didnt give out many missions that are suitable for a Hauler.

Each day I would basically stand still on about 20% inf.

Until Controlling faction had an Outbreak. Mining prices tanked, Hauler vanished, I easily shot up and equalized Inf.

The ONLY thing I can think to explain my inability to gain inf when there is no observable mission or trade occurring is a Hauler, Mining. A GOD DAMN HAULER.
Much as I appreciate the transnational basis so big ships dont rule the bubble, a Mining Hauler should not be able to defeat a Fully Engineered Python putting in 5 hours work a day.

(Why the guy was still in a Hauler after weeks of mining is also beyond me)

The really odd thing is that Outbreaks don't have that much effect on laser-mined goods, just the core ones ... but a Hauler only has one small hardpoint so can't be going core mining.

(If it was going laser mining it would explain why they're still in a Hauler)

Yes, that bit may be coincidental. The entire situation makes no sense, but Hauler and Mining are 2 conclusions I cant find any alternative to.

if I recall correctly, during the outbreak state combat actions don't count towards influence either positively or negatively, similar to being in an election under the pre-3.0 BGS. You say "nothing interesting" on bounties - do you mean there are bounties but not in large amounts, or none whatsoever?

Small, like 1 or 2 interdiction kills per day (<50k). And that data is "issued" not "claimed" isnt it ?

if it's only single-digit numbers of bounty claims then that's not significant enough to push the controlling faction up. I've held off systems where people have been cashing bounties in the hundreds.

edit: or I could be misremembering and it's only bounties that count in an outbreak, in which case that would be a significant effect.

The dominant faction had the investment state for a while but that started before the update. Like I said, it's a very boring system, which is why I went there.
